Island has apparently granted immortality to the natives or something... explains why that one dude that ben (as a child) met in the woods still hasn't aged, and why the russian can't die. John has some sort of commune with the island or whatever.

The russain guy explained why he didn't die. He said the shield wasen't set to "lethal dose".

Maybe the black smoke thing is Jacob?! lol.
Maybe the black smoke can take the form of all the things in peoples memories. Like the Horse, Walt and Jack's dad. Or perhaps Jacob is the one who is doing that?
Which might explain why we saw Walt talking to Locke in that Ditch, having him kept alive.

The russain guy explained why he didn't die. He said the shield wasen't set to "lethal dose".

Yet he was also shot in the chest with a harpoon...

Valenzetti Equation is old news. It was revealed last summer in at the conclusion of the lost experience. Also, it is the Hanso Foundation who is researching the virus to save the world, not dharma.

Is he as special as Locke in that he has unusual healing abilities and is trying to hide that fact from Ben? What happened to his eye then? How about the parachutist? How did he know about her ability to heal on the island? How about Bernard's wife? Any one else on the island? WHY NOT BEN?

I think the russian guy was part of the Soviet army at one point so that would exclude him from being a "native". Also, Bernard's wife and the parachutist also commune with the island? Why aren't they as important to the Others as John is?

The smokey seems to take on a form that represents a figure of comfort or objective. Someone that would make the person want to talk to him/her. Walt is somewhat diffrent in that he apparently exhibits psychic properties diffrent from Desmond's.

Intresting thought, Smokey = Satan/Grim Reaper/Trickster Jacob = God/Savior/Medicineman(due to his hate in modern tech)

Anyone have any ideas on why Jack says they weren't supposed to leave the island? Is it because they have nothing now that they have come back or does it have something to do with what Ben said?

Are we ever going to figure out what the magic box that brought Locke's dad to the island is?
Also why is the island so special and why can it make apparitions like Kate's horse?
What is Ben's group doing there? Why were the radio signals blocked?

Noone was allowed to leave maybe because Jacob knew that all they would find in the real world is misery, and those who does have a future would have been taken in Season 1.

My guess is that there is no magic box, and they took his dad physically to the island.

The others did use horses to move around. The black horse however is anyone's guess.

It's not technically Ben's group because he joined the group when he was part of the Dharma Initiative.

Radio signals were blocked to prevent rescue attempts?

Well, the obvious point is that Ben doesn't want the island to be discovered. Maybe he's scared of the world's reaction to his experiments. Maybe he just wants to be alone. Maybe he thinks his experiments are going to save the world and that if Jack gets rescued, obviously the island will be found and his experiments will be stopped, so the world will "end".

Mikail seems to be invincible, and I wouldn't be surprised to see if he lives through the grenade explosion.

Secondly, the newspaper clipping says 'man' found, so we can rule out juliet.
