I hope the answer to #1 is a logical answer, something that you can get by accurately flipping the glasses at the appropriate time, not something stupid or tricky (outside the box as bandit said), cause like talisman I absolutely CAN NOT think outside the box. I'm too much of a logical thinker, which is why I suck at most riddles. I'm 90% sure I got it though.

The first one is unbelievably easy. If you've ever done the 4-gallon bucket problem similar to one of those Die Hard movies (3-gallon bucket and 5-gallon buckets of water and you need 4 gallons), it's a very similar thought process.

Just imagine actually having the hourglasses and their properties: Counting down and ending.
