The only thing they did right is getting out of the recession quicker than the US. And even then...

Some of what they did is laughably stupid, like buying a loadshit of military planes right during recession recovering while cutting in virtually every truly important sector (the only country Canada is currently in war with is Denmark, and lulz @ the tamest "war" ever).

The rest isn't laughably stupid, because even if I'm a fan of dark humor, I don't find Harper's shit any funny.

That was actually embarrassing for the Bloc... That they were severely out-voted by NDP to the point where they barely registered a few percent. But Jack Layton passed, and his attitude towards things was the main reason I voted for NDP. I'm less sure now considering NDP is made up of a lot of newcomer politicians. Conservatives are showing off what they'd do, and people clearly aren't happy. The Bloc is obsessed with Quebec. And the Liberals haven't necessarily pleased people in the past.

You know what. Next election, every Canadian in this thread that is annoyed at this case better vote for the GREEN PARTY OF CANADA lululululululul

I love all the people taking shots at Canada for backing out of an accord that their country was never a part of in the first place. It's hilariously hypocritical to be decrying Canada for that. Right up there with calling all Canadians murderers if we decided to reinstitute the Death penalty and you were from Texas.

Additionally: What the conservative government does is not actually reflective of what a majority of Canadians want. This election was an unfortunate anomaly of vote-splitting on the left, that the Conservatives benefitted from. Virtually every single riding that the Conservatives added this election was previously Liberal>Conservative>NDP, and this time around, enough Liberals voted NDP to drop the Liberals into 2nd or 3rd, but not enough of them to push the NDP up into first. In most of those ridings, the Conservatives won with the same or fewer actual votes than they had the previous year.

I would be completely unsurprised to see, in the next election when everyone votes strategically again to get the conservatives out, the new Prime Minister trying to re-sign onto Kyoto.

Also, who says that dropping out of the Kyoto Accord means that the reason for doing so is because the new plan is to say **** it to the Earth? Just because our government decided that following that plan in that way with those specific goals wasn't the best way for us to approach protecting the environment doesn't mean there's not going to be another plan in place to work towards the same end.

And Magicturbo: Anybody who votes for the Green party in the next election is doing nothing except waste their vote and give the Conservatives that much better of a chance to retain control of the government. Elizabeth May had to lie and gerrymander to land herself a seat, the only seat they've ever won, ever. They're not a valid party to form a government.

I'm shocked at a lot of people's responses here. I don't think most people even know what they're talking about. Forget about party leverage/strategy - there are actual reasons why the Kyoto Protocol is a complete mess. However, that's not to deny that global warming is false, as some seem to have implied here. There seems to be some sort of mix-up in this thread leading to unrelated topics: a) whether you think global warming exists or b) which party do you support. Get on topic.

Man, a lot of you have no idea what you're talking about. Refer to bmah and devonin's posts for some "enlightenment" on reasons for dropping out and how this doesn't mean we don't give two shits about the environment. The Protocol is unrealistic for several countries, enough said.

Hopefully abiding under the kyoto protocol for the time we've already spent has at least taught us some habits for keeping a healthier planet. Though I agree that keeping a healthy planet should be mandated, not by choice. If we're all on a boat and one person wants to sink the boat, I'm not going to let them.

There are countless other threads decrying us Americans, deal with it. It was part of the troll because I wanted to elicit some responses from you guys, and part of the reason I dumped it in Chit Chat. Okay? Okay.

Anyways, I fully acknowledge that Kyoto is absurd and it isn't good for many of the already existing, modernized economies, but the message behind it certainly is, and I don't think just because you can't meet the obligations laid out in the protocol that you should quit attempting to reduce emissions and improve technology.

And I think that was Emo Saur who said "we shouldn't worry about polluting the Earth because we'll be dead by the time it's a real problem," and I just want to directly say "**** you" to you Emo Saur, because that is the worst possible way to handle a global problem that literally effects everyone, including your sorry ass, and a problem that is getting worse every single day.

I already hate American government/politics for allowing the inclusion of "private funding" for politicians and campaigns they run. It has completely ruined this country and nothing will ever change in the United States if private funding in elections continues - it's a virtual guarantee. I'm just wondering if Canadian politics has devolved to a similar situation.

I believe we have some, but on a much MUCH lower scale. Lobbying is not something we usually see around here. Still, I bet there are some things we don't know much about, like if companies like Suncor promise votes to a party like Harper's in exchange of some subventions...
