Genders alter from storm to storm, new sets per year. Something like, this year is Ana, next year is Alex, following Arlene in 11', Alberto in 12. The genders alternate from storm to storm after that. Any destructive storm gets it's name retired and cannot be used again.
In terms of Bill coming towards you in Edgartown, personally, I don't think Bill will come that close to you to cause any damage, but large seas and swells and beach erosion are probably a definite. Maybe 20' seas as a max. I'm still watching and seeing what this trough does to see if there will be any concern for the U.S in terms of Bill actually grazing someone. I don't think so though. Also, Bill has been downgraded to a Cat. 3, but some storm strengthening and fluctuations are definite. Winds are currently down to 110mph. Expect some strengthening (a little, nothing super) within the next 24 hours or so then weakening from there on in.

So do the names always go in alphabetical order during the year? Like, in 2010 we'll have Alex, then Betsy, then Carl, then Denise? Or do they just pick any name that hasn't been used yet, regardless of starting letter.

I really should know this, actually. This is like 5'th grade stuff right here.

Haha, it's quite okay.
Yeah, it's in Alphabetical order each year, varies from location to location. As for picking names, usually, IIRC, a set of names are introduced before the hurricane season that are picked randomly. Edit: I was wrong, 6 lists are used and rotated every 6 years.

Reach, hopefully you're fine. Same with you, Giggles. I'll update the current situation tomorrow. As for now, nothing from Bill should be that significant. For Giggles, just some wind, surf, rain, etc. Reach, you're going to get pretty much a full tropical storm, which obviously can cause problems, but it shouldn't be horrible. I'll get a full post going tomorrow.

Looks like my area is in hurricane watch, with average to low category 1 winds. As such, I'm not terribly worried about the wind. The yard has been secured and there aren't any massive trees that are going to fall and destroy everything this time :P

I'm more worried about the flooding, actually. If we max out some of these rainfall warnings the area around my house could be flooded out really badly. D:


Though, if the wind tunnels into this area like during Juan, the fence will probably be lost. Could also lose the shed. The wind behavior during Juan was strange - behind my house, a massive strip of trees is completely plowed down, every tree flattened. However, to the left and right of this area all the trees are still standing. They're all the same tree type, too. This behavior was seen in many places - some of our parks were completely decimated in the hurricane, where as others were relatively unscathed.

Hopefully all goes over well.

I'm fine, I actually made it off island Saturday afternoon to beat the storm. I'm chillin at home in CT where we've got some light rain.

Not much happened. It looks like it's over. I'm a bit disappointed, actually 8) We didn't even get half the rain they called for.

So yeah, no damage whatsoever, which is nice.

Great to hear! I just woke up, so my fault for not updating anything, haha. Glad Bill was crap in terms of effecting people. Sucks following the storm but it's always better that way =p.

Well well, lets see:

Tropical Storm Danny is now on the map. Also, as the image above shows, there's another area of disturbed weather that could definitely end up becoming the next depression of the season. In terms of Danny, I'll just go over a brief overview and my thoughts before I update with anything serious:

So that's that. It definitely doesn't look impressive as Danny has yet to establish a central center, which seriously causes predictability problems for where he is going to go, so much is relied on the models for the forecast. In terms of my thoughts and what will happen the next few days:
There are quite a few influences, including Danny himself and where it will end up going. Personally, I think everyone should look for a trend eastward, closer to the states, as that is what the models have been trending towards. So Mr Giggles, Reach, both of you are in for a treat with another storm (hehehe 8) ) which could actually be worse than Bill. We'll have to keep an eye on it again. I'll try to keep with more updates and quicker ones than last time, if I have the time to. I'll update later tonight.
