Re: Depression
Depression, I believe is a state of mind. I used to be depressed. I took medicine. I tried to be more social and create time filling activities. Didn't do anything. Then about a year ago. I just woke up and decided I didn't want to feel useless anymore. Pills, activities, person contact. Does nothing. It is a state of mind. With will, anyone can overcome.

Re: Depression
Oh, and sending brief emails or text messages or voice messages to your friends once in a while helps too, especially if they respond. Just that little bit of emotional support and kindness to others can go a long way to fighting depression. It's been helping me out lately.Leave a comment:

Re: Depression
Get off the high school weed debate, guys. No-one wants to hear it.
Also people who said, "Dun worry b hapy lul emo". I'd rather you jump in front of a freight train, thanks. That or ignorant less plox.
Some good advice has been given in the thread. Mainly from Ananananana and Varia. I myself suffer from depression, I've been dealing with it for about 5 years. At the moment I take Citalopram and Mirtazapine everyday. Hopefully your depression won't get that far. It might be a phase and it might not. If you suspect it's going to stay for a while then you shouldn't worry, as there are loads of options open to you. Don't brush it off and not deal with it, see someone about it. I recommend you do this as depression can lead to a lot of things, anxiety being one of the ones I know of from personal experience.
Depression can really mess your life up, but simple things like exercise and talking to someone can really make a huge difference. Eating right would help greatly too. If it does stick around then talking to your doctor is the best option. Your doctor will sort you out with loads of choices, some might involve medication, but I assure you, you'll go through all of the drug free options first. If you do end up taking meds, it'll probably start off with really small dosage, so I wouldn't worry too much. They'll work on changing the little things like mood, and sleep irregularities. If you put your arm in plaster for a broken leg, you can say the same about mental health.
Also, one of the biggest things open to you right at this very moment in time, is the internet. Asking for help is already a big step and a good sign towards combating depression. But have you considered researching the illness online as well? You'll get thousands of hits from google. There are loads of sites about that could enlighten you on the illness and the many ways of fighting it.Last edited by SethSquall; 05-13-2009, 09:51 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Depression
A relationship is a stupid thing to try and pull you out of it, because you become incredibly emotionally attached and clingy, ruin your relationship by dooming it from the start, and then once you're broken up you'll find out you're even worse off.
As for pot, I won't even get into the debate but it's safe to say that the medical community is largely at odds and the legal situation is almost entirely predicated on propaganda and false logic rather than sound thinking. But that's typical hypocrisy and it's hardly worth noting more than I already have. In terms of fixing depression, no chemical will do it for you, though some can help treat it. While I love marijuana, it's most certainly not a treatment for depression. In fact, it's a miserable treatment for depression. I think the only time one should really be smoking marijuana is when feeling emotionally sound and happy. Smoking when depressed, which is what I'm currently doing, usually makes you mess your life up even further, which I am currently doing. Also, cue Walk Hard drug references.
I've taken Abilify, Prozac, Lexapro, Concerta, and a variety of other meds to try and "fix" myself and they've all failed miserably. I took five different meds at once under the direction of a psychiatrist and ended up constantly overdosing and attempting suicide because of how awful it got. I kept trying to commit suicide because of how painful it was to even exist. It feels like being a caged animal. So if I were you guise, I'd consider staying med-free if you can.Leave a comment:

Re: Depression
Well I was more or less referring to something like this.
"In 1989, Joseph Wesbecker shot dead eight people and injured 12 others before killing himself at his place of work in Kentucky. Wesbecker had been taking the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant fluoxetine for four weeks before these homicides, and this led to a legal action against the makers of fluoxetine, Eli Lilly.[48] The case was tried and settled in 1994, and as part of the settlement a number of pharmaceutical company documents about drug-induced activation were released into the public domain. Subsequent legal cases...have further raised the possibility of a link between antidepressant use and violence."[49]
A meta-analysis published in February 2008 combined 35 clinical trials of four newer antidepressants (fluoxetine, paroxetine (Paxil), nefazodone (Serzone) and venlafaxine (Effexor)). These antidepressants belonging to three different pharmacological groups were considered together, and the authors did not analyze them separately. The authors concluded that "although the difference [between the placebo and antidepressants] easily attained statistical significance", it did not meet the criterion for clinical significance, as used by National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (UK), "for any but the most severely depressed patients."[50] Some articles in the press using the titles "The creation of the Prozac myth"[51] and "Prozac does not work in majority of depressed patients"[52][53] presented these general findings about the relative efficacy of antidepressants and placebo as the findings about ineffectiveness of fluoxetine. In a follow-up article, the authors of the meta-analysis noted that "unfortunately, during its initial coverage, the media often portrayed the results as “antidepressants do not work”, which misrepresented our more nuanced pattern of findings."
But that works too.Leave a comment:
