Re: Ffr rant. Banners. Advertisements. Wtf. Dx

Telling someone to subscribe is a horrible way to solve this problem. The site should be just as functional with the ads as it would be without the ads.

And a note: People who use adblock are only hurting the site. Seriously, that money from the ads could go towards making the site better. If you use adblock, please stop complaining about features.

Another note: Noscript can cause serious issues if you block ffr specific JS. I would suggest allowing ffr to run all JS.

Last Note: If the ads keep causing redirects and synth doesn't fix it soon. I might start suggesting adblock just to prevent users from getting bad software from any of the redirects.

I don't get any of these ads or page directings...I just use firefox and the only kinds of ads I get are when you click into a forum thread. Some Netflix ad comes up and you have to wait for it to start, then click skip ad to continue.

Keeping this post around could potentially cost FFR ten - nay, twenty dollars of subscriptions! Horrible! Rid of it!

And you tell me I should pay to keep up this cold businessman approach instead of just adblock for exactly the same result? You think I should give out of integrity when the site itself threw out integrity ages ago?

I don't know what to say...

          That was actually pretty clear.

But I'm still into the game and I have a few things on FFR that Step Mania has yet to give me... but I don't subscribe due to the fact that "beta" things will eventually be released to the public...

I don't really know for sure a good response to this, though... it's hard to say for sure when you don't know much about the History of FFR.

Hell, Synth is lucky people are willing to work for free. An hour of real development time can cost up to 120 an hour from an outside company. Considering some features are huge... Yea it starts to add up.

So before you start getting all pissy about ffr becoming too much of a business, please try to remember that there's a lot of people doing free work and spending money they shouldn't have to; just so you can go troll TGB. If you don't like the direction FFR is going, you are welcome to leave.
Wow, I didn't know it costs that much to do things like that...

Tokzic has a valid point, though; the ads that FFR is using are definitely way too much. Sure, monetization is necessary, but when ads intrude with using the site's functionality, they're going too far.

I agree. However, after some research, it looks like these are doubleclick ads. Which is odd, because doubleclick should have better quality control. Looks like DC is getting a little on the bad side. The ads as they are now need to change. Plain and simple.

every once in a while, I get an ad that has something to do with interacting with people online, and was promoting "doing what you always wanted to do but couldn't"

Which definitely referred to something sexual to the, non-pornographic, but still sexual, picture.

I'm glad Maldon has come in here to clear things up. Because people do take so many things for granted.

Things like the average miss fix when Xelius put in a lot of time to fix the coding, so that would happen. No one appreciates the volunteer work that is put into ffr, they just expect handouts and luxuries because that's where it started. Back in 03-05 there was hardly a huge member base, hardly a huge stress on the servers, and hardly anything that really needed to be produced and made into a commercial product like ffr is becoming now.

Sure there are quite a few things that are on ffr now that I wish there weren't, but I subscribe because I like to support ffr in the things that they do for us. People take even the forum for granted, which doesn't take up much resource is still an essential part of the site.

I love almost every aspect of ffr, the community here is much better than many forums you can go out and find on the internet, and if it means that for $38 a year I have to put a little money into the pockets of the people that are putting in their time and effort to make things better for me, then so be it.

                            Hey everyone,

If this happens to you (redirects, bad banner image etc) send me a pm with as much detail as you can. A screenshot wont really help. I need a physical url for the banner, or if you are snazzy with tech, find out the code the ad put into the page. I'm trying to track down exactly where these ads are being served from so I can pass it to synth to get them blocked.
