I married Wanita Rinata Reynolds Webb, Synth's third cousin twice removed, and let me tell you guys! Alright there, the pic size are under 300X 300 pixels. under the maximum limit.

Avatars and Signatures: please keep your signature to a maximum width of 500 pixels, and a maximum height of 250 pixels. Avatars must be no more than 200 pixels in height, and no more than 175 pixels in width.

hate to be the pooper here, but on the avatar update page, it does say 200 by 200, and I did it a glitch where it would say 300 by 300. Relying on an announcement that tells people to not listen to the forum software is silly.
