Haha... that was a slip, obviously. I meant optometrist. I also have an orthodontist, who I visit many many more times than my optometrist, so I can understand why I'd make the mistake.

They do measure your eyes seperately, but not using that notation. You're mistaken, because jewpin is right.

17/18 literally means that you can see something 17 feet away (usually a letter) that the average person can see 18 feet away, which means your vision is worse than 20/20 if it were true, not better.

20/200 would basically be blind.


I could see at about 20/10 when I first got my glasses, because my vision wasn't very bad and they over corrected my vision really XD I'd say it's about 20/20 now with my glasses on.

I always knew playing video games wasn't bad for you eyes. Staring at a monitor is, though XD

I'd hope not. lol

Since 20/200 is legally blind, 20/400 would be ...well, I'm not sure. The strongest perscriptions (usually about -2.5) can partially correct 20/200.

My perscription is about -0.5 in both eyes, or about 20/30, and I think my vision is pretty bad sometimes



For the record, since most people think 20/20 vision is perfect or really good, it really isn't. 20/15 is probably healthy vision. Great vision would be 20/10. Usually on eye charts, the very bottom line is either 20/15 or 20/10, so if you can read it you have great vision. The big E on the top is usually 20/200

Well, uh, can't most people see things fine 20 feet away? Like they could read a regular sign, right?

I can't read anything, anywhere, with my glasses off. If I want to see something perfectly clear, there is a spot about 3 inches in front of my vision, right before it starts to get too close, where I can actually see things fine. 3 inches. Anything else is blurry crap.

Like I said, I'm non-functional without my glasses. I haven't adapted to being blind because I don't need to. My glasses let me see. And I'm careful with them.

Idk, I play lots of video games for 1/2 my life and i've always felt my vision was supirior to those that didn't play games.

Everyone complains that video games ruin thier vision. Its called old age, or if your still young then you shouldn't be complaining.

Going a little off, if video games ruin vision, wouldn't reading to? Your eyes constantly go back and forth for long periods of time. That could damage your eyes to.

It might improve your peripheral vision, how quickly you react etc, but staring at your monitor without a break WILL make your vision worse.

it hasnt made my eye sight any worse yet...and im on my laptop all the time and crap and ive always had 20/20

Losing my eyesight is my greatest fear. I wake up every morning fearing that it'd be gone. My vision isn't too bad though.

My vision has improved a tiny bit. I used to always play Goldeneye on my Nintedo64, then I've been playing stuff like Rainbow 6 and Metroid Prime all the time now. Vision when I was younger was 20/20, it's 20/15 now.

You misunderstood me then, when I said 17/18, I stated that each was out of 20, so left eye is 20/17, right 20/18 etc.


And this study had the group of people play for ONE HOUR a day, seriously how many of us only play for an hour a day, I know on my days off it's a good 12 or so hours, most of the time more than that, so I think those of us who play video games a low to moderate amount...then yes, it may help your vision, but for those of use who play in excess, I think the effects would lean much more towards the negative side.
