80% tests? If he doesn't give out a lot then that's royally unfair. Being someone who has taken Math Olympiads and got a 2/5 on an extremely easy test which I made 3 mistakes which should have led to a 5/5 just because I was having a bad day. Because of that forfeited my title as biggest math nerd to some total loser by two points.

I have many bad days. It would suck to have a bad day on a test where even a one point difference on that one measly test can mean the difference between a B+ or an A on your report card.

Uh, get used to it. My calculus class had 80% weighted on TWO TESTS (Well, exams). They don't give a **** if you think it's fair or not. Of course it isn't fair. Anyone can screw up....but that's the way it goes.


I went to school with someone that got 100% in every course and got a 2400 in the SAT finishing it in like half the allowed time. However, let's not confuse grades with 'smarts', unless you define smart as being a garbage trap. Anyone can memorize lots of information...that doesn't mean you're a high level thinker (she wasn't). I wouldn't say ken jennings is even close to the smartest man in america, even though clearly he could annihilate just about anyone in a factual knowledge test.

If anything it's more expectancy x value = motivation = your grade, assuming you don't have a learning disability.

I don't think many people upon reflection would refer to this ability as 'intelligence', or 'smarts', even though most people assume academia is the natural setting for genius...which isn't true either XD

Well.. I wouldn't consider myself to be much above average intelligence, yet I'm getting all As, maybe an A- or two in school. A lot of the time I find out people who aren't as 'smart' as me are often smarter.

89.8% in trig and my teacher rounds that up. if i missed one more on the final i woulda gotten a B+. how lucky is that!!!!!! everything else was easy. but gosh!

Last year I got an 89.5% average in my math class. It got rounded to an A-.

Calc 2 this semester, 90% is an A- 95% is an A. Although I'll probably get a D+

Update.

A in world history by 1 and a half points. Originally I was down by 1 and a half points, but using my totally amazing convincing skills, I got her to boost it up.

It went like this:

"Remember the time the report cards were mailed and I came in the next day with bruises?"
"Oh, yeah..."
"Well, uh, I think we all learned our lesson that day."

That, and I pointed out the two times I missed homework, in which I gave it to her late but she didn't mark them late (yeah, she's one of those teachers, the "I'll accept **** late" kind). Since her grading system is beyond atrocious, despite the fact that we had about 15 homeworks in her class at least, those two missing homeworks boosted my grade 3 points.

When she changed the grade, she made them count as if they were handed in on time. They were really late so they're only half credit, but who's complaining? XD

With this, I'm still eligible for Honors US History and my GPA isn't lowered by a large margin.

Most places it's 90 for an A-, but A-'s count as A's. If it was really 85.5 here, I'd have a 4.0 GPA and so many other people would have high GPAs. But no, I have a 3.4.
