I must say, I'm surprised by this thread. Honestly.

Better points were raised here, on a friggin' board surrounding a flash-based DDR simulator by teens and just-about-no-longer-teens, than on message boards DESIGNED to discuss "heavy" topics.

        SALUT!

Someone say something about what I mentioned earlier. For some reason, I feel like I need approval, and that's kind of wrong... I just feel so weird, about it, meeting someone so amazing through the internet. It's so painful, because it's so wonderful. Gotta love life's paradoxical nature.

I like heavy topics. The youth of today is too set one being cool and "pimpin". The sad thing is that used to be a horrible insult. Now it is something to aspire to be. The world is becomming a horrible place to live in.

Some times getting back to the basics is a good thing.

OK, guys, seriously, this is a good one to get your hands into. I can't comment because I have too much prior knowledge about the event he's talking about to be unbiased, though.

At first you could go on either side wether meating people on the internet is good or bad. It could be good because you get to know them as a person, not as something to look at. You see what their like, their personality, how smart they are etc. But all that could be just a screen. How do you know who's talking to you? they personality could be completley made up, and even if they send you pictures, for all you know, you could be flirting with some 50 year old guy... As much as I like to get to know someone before judging them on their looks, I just don't think it's a good idea .

Because they were introduced by a trustworthy person.

                  i'll give it a shot.
I may have you missrepresented here, but I wanted to throw this out there...

The person I consider to be my girlfriend, I've never met with in person. I didn't see a picture of her until AFTER I was fairly certain that I could apply the word "love", one I never use liberally, towards her. (And before anyone things that I'm "being played", I'll just say that I had a very good friend whom I trust wouldn't ever screw with me that badly have me talk to her in the first place, one of his personal IRL friends.)

Now, you may have meant something to the extent that it wouldn't have got to this point if there wasn't that basic human desire to be with someone, often considered a sexual thought. Is that what you meant?
this concept is not for the faint of heart and the shallow. in order to truelly fall in love with someone without ever seeing them involves the sort of sould connection that has been referred to earlier and has nothing to do with sexual desire in the slighest. in order for a realtionship like this, whether it be "boyfriend girlfriend" or just a really deep friendship takes both of the parties involved realizing that, despite what the world tells them, there can be a relationship that can last without ever seeing that person and without ever actually desiring to have sex with them based on how they look. as far as the sex point goes... regardless of how mature or advanced a person (and by person i mean male) is there is always a certain sexual desire. however, in this instance it would not be based on looks. it would be based on sould connection and an actual desire to spend time with this person for the rest of your life. a personal example: a while back i heard about a new car forum ( i'm into cars... in case you didnt know) where i met a bunch of new people, several of which i started to chat with or post specifically to on the forum. with one in specific there was some sort of connection. we started to talk over AIM, and eventually phone numbers were exchanged. the second night of actually talking to this person she had told me basically her entire life story and many of the problems she was having for no apparent reason other than the fact that we connected. i'm fairly certain that if we lived closer (she lives 6 hours away) that we would be dating. by the way... shes 2 years older than i am. so, as for the concept of meeting people on the internet and becoming involved with them, it is completely plausible and sometimes effective, but takes an extraordinary set of people to be able to achieve this.

[tangent] i'm now goin to take it upon myself to address the issue of sex. i noticed while typing my above post that noone has really talked about it yet.

what is sex for? science says procreation. while this is true, it is something much more important and much deeper than simply creating more humans. when two people have sex, they become connected both physically, mentally and emotionally. while the physical aspect is quite obvious, the mental and emotional aspects are less apparent. mentally, a person sees themself with this person and their mind becomes connected with the feeling of having the other person around. emotionally, there is a deeper connection. the two people involved have shared the deepest of human sensation together.
now, is this connection something that should be divided up between multiple people? think of it this way: you have lots of friends. a majority of those friends are simply acquaintences, while a few are your "best friends" that you are connected with more deeply. the reality of this is that more people only have a few dear friends because they 1. dont have the time to devote enough time to more than a few best friends and 2. dont have the emotional capacity to actually connect with more than a few people on a deeper level than simple friendship. now, compare this concept to significant others. in relationships, most people kiss etc. but, when a relationship progresses to sex, it is essentially like one of those "best friend" relationships. you are sharing somtehing with that person that is much deeper than simply acquaintence, or in this case kissing. now, over a span of 10 years, imagine that you have sex with 30 different people. 3 people a year. 30 connections of which you will likely never return to, except perhaps one, who you might decide to marry. you have split this connection up between 30 people, and you will be spending the rest of your life with only one.
sex is not something to simply play with and enjoy. it is something meant to be had with solely one person; the person who you will be physicaly, mentally and emotionally connected with for the rest of your life. dont be drawn in by false "i love you's" or any of that crap. think about what your future means and what the act of sex means and then make a decision based on that.
                  [/tangent]
                  critique?

edit: by the way... does anyone think we can actually have an intelligent conversation about religion here? i'd be up for it considering several people have commented on the relation between love, soul and religion.

I personally am all for religious debates, as long as people aren't stupid about it. (OMG JOO MORMAN DEVEL WORSHPIER!!111 Please.)

At the age of 16, I'm happy I can see this. Mistakes of this caliber are very painful.

Sex is an expression of part of your emotions. If you regard it as just fun, you lose a expression of your self. If you were the type of person who slept around, and then later you find that person you love, sex does not seem like much of an expression of that love. Even if that isn't true with you mate, their expression love to you is weakened.

I'm still wondering if these are random thoughts...
About the whole meeting someone online topic, I personally think it's a horrible idea because, like I'm sure someone said already, you could be talking to some guy thats like 20 years older than you and is just planning on raping you when they get the chance

That is why you have to have another connection that knows them. And no, it isn't always the best idea. You have to actually talk to them for longer than a month. This is also why exchanging phone numbers helps. You don't just talk to this person for a week. You talk to them for months and have tons of problems spoken out between you. They couldn't be Mr. Charming the entire time.
