Dynamo and Cav: mental illness is not something you can will away. The brain is an organ like everything else.

That being said, a lot of people exaggerate shit as an excuse to self-victimize (also see learned helplessness).

A neurological disease is MUCH different from a mental illness imo. People who are "chronically depressed" are most likely suffering from neurological symptoms that are out of their control. I understand that, but learned helplessness is an easy road to find yourself on and I don't sympathize with that.

There is an enormous grey area in all of this and it is shitty to try and parse which situations are truly neurological conditions and which are exaggerated self-victimization.

I'd rather believe I'm more inclined to be anxious or depressed than the average person, but that I can control it if I try hard enough. It works a lot of the time, but it stresses me out. It's probably why I sleep over 12h most nights, come to think of it.

I absolutely refuse to take drugs to deal with it though. inb4 debate topic

Why am I being included in that? Did you even read my posts??

you as a cognizant human being who understands cause and effect have the ability to rise above any mental prisons or barriers you are creating for yourself.
The power of positive thinking! It's actually fallacious reasoning here too, to assume that because someone thought themselves into depression or some other mental state, that they can then also think themselves out of it. There's no vice versa rule to all this, maybe it's doable, maybe it's not. Damage or physical changes are damage and physical changes. Most things are far easier to break than fix, due to the fact that breaking is simply the lack of keeping the complexity of everything fixed.

I said you need to have an open mind because without accepting that your beliefs about yourself are wrong and need to be challenged, (i.e. "I'm not good enough", "I can't hold a job", etc.) you will remain stuck in the rut that you are in. The unfortunate thing about this is inertia; the longer you stay in this mindset and are comfortable with being that way, the harder it will be to change your ideals.
I'm not equating low self-esteem to depression or any other mental illness. It bothers me that you have that perception of depression. Feelings of guilt, sadness, being overwhelmed, anxiety, inability to concentrate, tiredness, crying, burst of anger or conversely feeling numb...these are not self-esteem issues. Sure, when you have these it's easy to develop low self-esteem, but fixing low-self esteem doesn't solve the rest of these problems.

Also, all thoughts are neurological too. There's not necessarily a distinction to be drawn at all.

I never promised any such thing (I'm far too lazy). You can literally Google this and it's all on the first page of results.

I did not. I only skimmed the discussion (I was standing in line for Captain America at the time) and responded to a few things that stood out to me, regardless of who said what.

our discussions are so secondary to Reincarnate that he uses them to amuse himself while waiting in line. *sniffle*
