I know you're banned, but I feel like laying the smack down anyway since you clearly missed it the first time.

And I quote: "Wii surpasses Xbox360 as new console leader in US." That's all there is to it. The Wii has a larger install base now, even despite shortages of hardware, despite a much later initial release. And if that weren't enough, the 360 has almost no install base in Japan, where the Wii is king of consoles as well.

Again: NO, MORE PEOPLE OWN WIIS THAN PEOPLE OWN 360S. Period.

also, 1. you have to have the dev kit. 2. assuming that because the community tests something then MS wouldn't find issues with it is naive. trust me on this... it's way more complex than you're thinking. it isn't just bugs. it's compatibility issues, it's even suggestions they have for changing things. it's anything.
You keep talking in terms of Microsoft...

Nintendo is the better choice, especially given the unique nature of the game we've been discussing. It's not like the 360's improved graphical capabilities would be a draw for this type of game either... I can tell you right now that Dr. Mario Rx Online looks great even if it's not HD with 50 billion polygons. And a Wii devkit is, in Synth's own words, much cheaper.

And does FFR really cost that much to keep up that Synth can't afford to invest a little side cash on a wii devkit? WHAT HAS MY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS GONE TO SYNTH WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAt

ps just had another idea on how to implement SIU into the Wii: Wii wheel. Like comes with Mario Kart. Or you could just hold the Wiimote in the same way. It would be hard I suppose, but that would just mean MORRRRRRE CHALLLLLLLLLLENGE

I talk in terms of microsoft just because we have years of back history with them... albeit not much, but at least we have a representative and have looked at doing stuff on XBLA, etc.

and, i wish FFR made us hundreds of thousands of bucks so we had the money to dev a console downloadable.

How much money is there available for this sort of investment? I can understand publishing being outside of FFR's reach, but I would think development costs wouldn't be too unwieldy (aside from this bogus testing phase you keep mentioning... any more than a single go through that and it'd break the bank).

You say you've been in talks with Microsoft. Have you been in talks with any publishers? Have you tried direct interaction with Nintendo akin to what you've got with Microsoft?

Seriously, I would LOVE to see this happen. This would be freaking MASSIVE and AMAZING. Even without playing the game, just to have this sort of thing out there and to know FFR did it.

I mean, this can't be outside of our grasp. Not when software companies are popping up all the time.

You should charge $50 per person to play 3rd style.

Also, I agree with Afrobean. Have you talked to any publishers? Has anyone talked to FFR about it? etc? SIU seems like it would adapt better with the wii rather than the 360.

That still doesn't solve the initial problem. Which is apparently the great deal of money required to start this.

Not if the profit margins on the per sale rate are too low.

And not if not enough people buy the game. If they make 5 dollars on every purchase and it costs them 400k to make it, they'd need to have 80,000 people buy it. Now, I don't know how much money the company makes off of each sale, or even have any idea what kind of rate, but 80k people is a bit more than the amount of people who actively visit this site in the past 2 months. Yes, they'd be reaching a bigger audience by being featured as a release, but I have no idea how many people who aren't familiar with the FFR brand would be willing to drop cash on a music game they've never heard of.

And that's just considering if it costs 400k per test cycle and run only one test before getting through. If multiple tests are required, they'd need to sell nearly 200k or more copies. I'm not sure the rates at which online games are bought, but I would venture to say 200k might be difficult to achieve from a relative unknown, particularly if FFR managed somehow to selfpublish.

EDIT: oh and if it is a DEFINITE that it'd be a good profit, then an investment would be warranted, even if the investment would require more money than is on hand. I would expect it wouldn't be all that difficult to procure funding via a loan of some sort, although I don't know if a loan of that magnitude would be so easily obtained.

I'm not saying your wrong, but I know 4 people that own Wii's, and over 60 that own 360's. Out of the 4 people that own Wii's I know 0 that play online, let alone spend money on downloadable games. Out of the 60+ Xbox users, I know at least 55 of them play online. About half of those 55 spend money on XBL arcade games.

I'd just have to figure there's a lot more people that use download $content$ on the 360 than the Wii—especially seeing how Xbox Live is, or was once, the biggest multimedia marketplace next to iTunes.

Anecdotes and nothing more. I'm the only person I know in real life who owns a Wii, but that doesn't mean statistics are wrong. It just means I don't roll with the right crowd. My friends were always more of the GTA-esque type... that, and the only gaming they were ever at all serious about was Diablo 2, then WoW, and even now they don't even really mess around with WoW either, at least not on the level they used to.

Hell, I had to wait for weeks til I got a hot tip on when a store would be getting Wiis in before I could get one, but I was able to pick up a 360 as a spur of the moment decision (along with a lucky break on a Rock Band bundle shortly after release). Wiis are in high demand; it's still difficult to find them in stock, yet even a little work will turn up 360s and PS3s easily.

And I again feel I must repeat: the Wii came out WAY after the 360 did and despite this, was able to surpass the install base regardless.

I don't know if that sort of statistics are available.

Mainly because it is free to play Wii games online, while that is not necessarily true for 360 games.

Furthermore, MEMBERSHIP is irrelevant. What would matter is how many sales of downloadable games. Compare Live Arcade sales to Virtual Console sales. This would be difficult to maintain relevance, because you would need to identify a rhythm game on each side of the fence, because SIU wouldn't sell at comparative rates as other games, it'd sell like a unique rhythm game. I don't think there are any on Virtual Console, but I'm not that familiar with Live Arcade to be honest. You could identify a game which is present on both services, but even that doesn't say that this particular game would match correlation (i.e. owners of 360 might prefer Sonic the Hedgehog more than Wii users, while Wii users might prefer Pacman more than 360 users). But that again misses the point of development costs. If a game would sell marginally better on the 360 but cost 10 times as much to develop, that's not very good at all.

Given development costs, it would take minimal effort to design Nucleus for the Nintendo Wii. I would put Spin It Up on the Xbox 360 as a matter of functionality. Install base doesn't even matter in this instance, it's the way the games are developed that make them a better suit for a particular system. If money weren't a question, I'm sure the team would be developing games for a number of systems.
