I would have to go with final fantasy 7, an instant classic and a game any gamer would be lucky to own now a days, the storyline was excellent and back then it had award winning graphics and who would have to thought it got a movie and a sequel including the one and only Vincent valentine.

as much as i hate to say it, it's true the game is not really good, but the story however is fantastic

Great gameplay and interesting story =/= Groundbreaking. Theres lots of games with great gameplay and great stories yet the majority of them would never be considered groundbreaking.

Well, first gameplay I would think could definatly be considered ground breaking. If something is done that makes this different and more enjoyable then the games produced at the time, that could be considered to be groundbreaking. Also remeber we are only comparing Chrono Trigger and FFVII and honestly the tech system in Chrono was absolutely basic and the dual and tri skills were ok but still not to amazing. FFVII battle system was the same format as other FF's but alot of new things were created. Any character had the ability to be customized by weapon//slots and become magical based, physical, or command. The freedom which FFVII system provided was definatly something that hadnt been done yet (or at least done the right way) The gameplay as you explore was a new experience in the way it was presented. Compared to Chrono Trigger the exploring in CT was basic, FUN but basic. FFVII may not have been AMAZING when it came to walking around, and checking out things. BUT it was definatly more impressive then CT, not to mention a better story / battle system. Yea I know stories arnt considered ground breaking but just stating FFVII story was better then CT.

final fantasy 7 was more ground breaking. it was the first ff that used polygons although many others have also. its just the transition from the snes to the ps that made it huge. the story was great also. introducing the materia system was great. it was different from the other ffs but the way it was made was nice. dont get me wrong. chrono trigger is a great game but not as ground breaking as ff7.

As Much As I Love Final Fantasy (...it voted that :'(...I wanted Chrono), I believe that Chrono Trigger gave it a more non-linear feel, you could do whatever really...or least it gave you that feel. As Final Fantasy is straight forward, I can understand why FF7 was like "SHAZONGA!!!!" it showed what the PSX could do...and it had quite the story (which any more seems to be the same as every other RPG *sigh*) Personall I liked Chrono Cross much better than Trigger...idk, although to this day I still don't understand how you level in Chrono Cross...I loved the game because it made me feel as if I could just be like "WTF/E I'mma just go kill this thing and end the story >_>"

Oh and I felt like Chrono Cross' story was far more...ehhh how you'd say emotionally gripping, espcially near the end ...and a BIG surprise when you find out the link between Kid and....well wouldn't wanna spoil it for ppls

BTW has anyone here ever Played Radical Dreamers >_>....when you've play CT, and CC, RD makes absolutely nosense...further, I wish they would of imported the other game ._______.

Isn't that similar to the job system from previous FFs?

okay so i hear alot of good things about FF7 and alot of CT...quite frankly...the game play for both was pretty advanced for their time. ESPECIALY CT the battle system was phenominal how complex it was accounting for what system it came out for. ff7 had its ups and downs, mainly for having the best graphics for its system, but even the materia system was a great addition. but why does no one mention Wild Arms? Even tho it came out around the time of FF7, it contributed a great story along with fun gameplay. and yea there was that controversy about ff7 and wa because their stories were similar in certain places, but must we forget wa even tho it got beat by ff7? the first 2 were one of the best RPGs of its time...how bout everyone go look at them and then rant some more...lol

was a sick game even tho it was for the ps1.
but thos graphics where better than most ps2 games at the time
