I just hate the people that DO. I've seen people at stores that have the GH demos that were literally like this:

"Wow, you're amazing at Guitar Hero."
"I know, aren't I?"
"Yea, you should definately play real guitar."
"I know, I'd be like Led Zepplin."

First of all, **** you all for not getting my point at all.

2nd, Tibs, no I'm not bashing GH because it has American rock in it. Hell I love Thunderhorse and Trogdor etc. I don't like GH because they are so worried about losing their fanbase that they would keep the same sometimes good, sometimes ****ty rock just to keep that base they have. If GH were to branch out to rock from other countries say like Lordi and Rhapsody, not only would they introduce people to other countries' rock music, it might get even more. But you know, you can't get you head out of your ass close enough to get past Spanish Castle Magic and Cowboys from Hell. Excuse the hell out of me.

3rd, Innovation doesn't matter? You people must be brain-dead or something. Last time I checked, innovation is the reason Nintendo owns the next-gen market at the moment. I guess I must have short term memory loss or something.

Also, I think GH had an idea of what they were getting themselves into when they decided to make GH. "Let's appeal to the 18-35 demographic of America that replaces that air guitar with a plastic one and let's use the format we used with Frequency and Amplitude!" was probably what exces said when they pitched this idea. Ok, GH added two more frets and a whammy bar. Good for them. But ****ing give props where props are due. Without GF, do you honestly think GH would have came up with the same exact thing? Probably not.

Since I'm winding down this little rant, **** you Aids for your bandwagoning, suck a Vet's dick post and Guido for that comic that had no bearing to my argument at all.Thank you FFR, good night!

So, to sum it up, you hate it because:

1. It doesn't have music that many have never heard of.
2. It's not revolutionary. (heaven forbid if something has been done before in the gaming world)
3. It's similar to another game that nearly no one has heard of before. (omg, GH was based off of GF, that makes GH instant fail. Better get rid of ITG too.)

Harmonix sold themselves to MTV, I don't think they're worried about introducing new music anymore... just making money. I miss FreQ and Amp. =(

I'd have to agree with Chromer actually. The game has little to no innovation at all; it has all been done before, but that doesn't mean that the game can't be fun. I only have a few favorite songs on GH2, mostly because either A) The music sucks or B) The charts are retarded (Hello Freebird and Jordan!). I did not like GF at all though. I find GH much more fun, but it hasn't brought anything new to the genre like people seem to think it has. People think it is revolutionary and people DO think they can play guitar if they are good at GH. Although this is a generalization, there is some validity in the point. It's damn annoying, but I also don't let it bother me because I can still have fun with the game.

GH is not revolutionary. It is not ****ing amazing. It is a huge waste of time in my opinion. But who said that a waste of time couldn't be fun? The multiplayer is quite amusing to play, especially with friends. The ability to unlock guitars, characters, songs, etc. gives the game SOME replay value, but that isn't really the focus of the game. All and all, it is a fun music game; just another title in a vast genre. That's it.

I don't care for 80% of the music that's on GH, but it is still a fun game to play.

I remember playing Guitar Freaks in the arcade about 5~6 years ago (when I was into rhythm based games) and not caring for it at all. However, the first time I played GH, I loved it. I've considered buying it, but I don't like it that much. But I must say, it did live up to the hype.

EDIT: that was pretty stupid when they said BMUS is a knock-off of Guitar Hero. I personally like IIDX more than GH, but got sick of the small song selection of BMUS.

I happen to know for a fact that bands play GH in their tour bus before concerts.

Cheers Guido for posting that comic. I was reading the whole thread hoping someone would post it before I finished. That comic has actually helped me out in an argument with people before as well lol. I was playing Jordan on hard and had like a 99% score at the end and my brother (who plays guitar) saw that I was really happy and said, "So? Try playing it on real guitar then". The idiot. As if 99% the song (and it's the song Jordan) made me think, "WOOAA OMG, I could totally play it IRL now".

I've had people say, "PLAY REAL GUITAR!" to me a few times and I've basically quoted that comic, just said it in my own way. It always works.

Guitar Hero music sucks because they are mostly covers, which almost always suck.

What? Most of the covers are better than the originals (Woman, Tonight I'm Gunna Rock You etc). Go compare them. There's a few that don't sound quite as good as the original but they are amazing covers. They're the best covers I've heard in fact. The only cover that I was a bit iffy about was Laid to Rest in GHII. The cover was amazing but the singer sounds off.

That's such a BS statement. I almost certain your trying to pick holes in the game with that. That or you haven't even played the game.

"Guitar Freaks + Frequency + Amplitude" sounds like it should appeal well enough to overcome most anything. The songlist... well, it's an American game, of course it's going to have American music. They're not going to make an American game and put your favorite **** underground NONAMERICAN music in it because it won't sell and the average buyer won't care. Think of how much work FFR has put into getting the few Japanese artists we have. Now imagine HAVING MONEY INVOLVED IN THE DEALINGS. It's not worth it monetarily, and no one is going to buy a game just because it has some random foreign song they have never heard of. The songlist has to be impressive. If it had NO MAINSTREAM AT ALL, it would sell poorly compared to how it is now. Who tries out Guitar Hero because they're a fan of FreezePop?

Also, holy **** I just checked out a few vids of Frequency and Amplitude because I never bothered before. All I have to say is that it's a promising game concept, but the music is NOTHING WORTH WRITING HOME ABOUT IF YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYING.

Point is: you play an American guitar sim, you are going to be hearing American rock music, most of which will be of the mainstream variety.

And don't let me get started on how X-Play called BMUS a rip-off of GH.

Also, your analysis comparing Guitar Hero to GF and Harmonix's other games is totally wrong. "WOW HAS SAME PERSPECTIVE OF NOTE DELIVERY DEFINITELY THE SAME THING". You can play Stepmania and ITG with that perspective too. If you're going to make any sort of claim of a formula for Guitar Hero, it should be:

Guitar Freaks + more buttons and "whammy bar" + American songlist

Actually.. Does Guitar Freaks have a mode which is activated by holding the guitar peripheral up? I know it doesn't actually effect gameplay (aside from removing the color of the notes), but yeah whatever.

And yeah, the covers are better for sure... would you rather have the original and have ****ty syncing? They're not even noticeable most of the time, and the only time it became apparent for me was when I was playing Heart Shaped Box and the singer pronounced the word a little different than I was expecting because Heart Shaped Box is one of my favorite Nirvana songs.

ps Chromer, have you checked out Frets on Fire or Guitar Zero? You can play whatever the **** **** music you want on those.
