Got all my games from my cousins. Had three consoles and duplicates of a lot of games. 100 unique games. Never had manuals for anything.

The only thing I ever saw about saving was to bomb that cave in the first room. I did that, turned off the console, and lost everything. Three dungeons in an hour and it was gone.

I was also ten, maybe younger. I didn't really know anything about anything.

Honestly, Synth has a valid point (as always). You cannot compare a game from one system to the next simply because of what you have played. You couldn't say that SMB was horrible in 1989, or you would burn in Microsoft hell. Just like Perfect Dark 64 Kicked so much ass, but when Perfect Dark 0 came out, it blew complete balls. If you think PD0 was awesome, you should go back and play PD64. See how this works?

The problem was that saving worked, but the save on the cart was wiped when you turned off the console.

Maybe I had a defective cart... both of them.

It generally wiped the cart if you didn't hold Reset while turning the game off, for some reason.

Speaking of DKC, DKC2 was the first game I ever bought. Bought it before I even got the SNES. As the first game I ever paid money for, it seemed fitting that I 100% it. Of course, it was 102% in that game...

Fun times. I bet I could pick up that game right now and ace it.

I still highly enjoy games from any generation after the NES. For the NES and earlier, however, game systems were still too primitive to make really great games.

The NES will TRULY always be a classic to me. LOVED the original Zelda, unlike some of you people... I guess I'm one of them hardcore Zelda fans.

There are good games on the NES but nowhere near as many good games as there on SNES. That's the point. The truth? More than likely. If you pick an NES game you've never played or heard of it has a bigger chance to suck more than the same situation with the SNES.

The games had to be build simpler etc. It's like why Atari games really suck if you've never played the system as a kid. the only games I like on Atari are Pitfall and Pitfall 2 and mostly because those games go places. Try to pick up a game like Warlords on Atari and appreciate its deep story and gameplay. The only appreciation you should have is how it helped to define video games and that tripe unless you grew up on it.

Then again, I usually only played it in arcades. In my better days I could usually get to lvl 60 on one quarter 8)

I have the Bubble Bobble audio gamerip. Rofl. There are like three or four songs in the entire game. Two that matter.

But the argument of game count total to good game count total ratio is apt. The same applies to the Playstation's series of games. They released a LOAD of games for the PS1 and PS2, but a small portion of them were any good. I have over a hundred NES games and I can tell you I never even put in the ones that looked like they would suck. It was always Mario, Zelda, Contra, Bubble Bobble, Duck Hunt, Golf, Tennis, Excitebike... etc. AKA, games we all know about.

At that point in time these games were ground breaking new exciting things to everyone worldwide. Much like these next gen consoles we're getting now and the games they support. In twenty years we'll look back at alot of these games and say they're pathetic compared to what we have now. There wasn't much before the NES though. Atari is the major one I can think of, we still have an old one actually with a whole set of floppies (REAL floppy disks, it's amazing) and compared to what the predecesor (sp?) it was moving video gaming forward.

You're right though, most of the games were crap, but if we were fifteen years in the past we'd think they rock our socks.
