Re: PlayStation 2 shipments in Japan are officially done (end of the sixth-generation
If you're gonna buy a PS3, buy a Wii instead. Loved the PS2, the 3 is horribly douchey though.if youre gonna buy a ps3, find a used 80GB. 100% backwards compatible, 4 USB slot, good few different card readers, and if im not mistaken, they have the ability to format back to software version 1.0 if those who like to cfw. the hard drive is super easy to switch out cus lets face it, 80 isnt gonna do anyone any good
RIP
Still play SW:Battlefront + more.

Re: PlayStation 2 shipments in Japan are officially done (end of the sixth-generation
Well that's mostly because I'm broke as fuc and I can't afford a PS3. But if I did buy one it probably wouldn't get much use. My PS2 is just so much more fun.
When you say 80GB do you mean the 2nd-gen CECHE or the 3rd-gen CECHK/L/M? Wikipedia says only the 2nd-gen is backwards compatible. And don't those older PS3s get YLOD a lot?if youre gonna buy a ps3, find a used 80GB. 100% backwards compatible, 4 USB slot, good few different card readers, and if im not mistaken, they have the ability to format back to software version 1.0 if those who like to cfw. the hard drive is super easy to switch out cus lets face it, 80 isnt gonna do anyone any good

So how long after it was released was it discontinued then?Do you still own one? Still play on it?
Link.
edit:
Microsoft discontinued the Xbox in 2007 after just 6 years on the market.
Nintendo discontinued the GameCube in 2007 after just 6 years on the market.
Sega discontinued the Dreamcast in 2001 after just 2 years on the market. It was the last console released by Sega.

Re: PlayStation 2 shipments in Japan are officially done (end of the sixth-generation
I believe some of the best games are on PSX and PS2, I just can't get my head on how much it is nostalgic for me going back to it. Well "going back" is no the right term, as I have never really threw it away. Just like the SNES and NES. God, those retro RPG games from Quintet and Square are just colossal. (thinking of Terranigma, Actraiser, Chrono Trigger, even Breath of Fire II from Capcom to name a few)
Just recently bought back FFXII and a broken Prince of Persia:The Two Thrones. I'm playing FF like crazy these days. I'm still looking for Grandia II though (anybody know if it's still available?). I've got another PS2 in backup from my girlfriend, so I'm hoping mine will last for many years from now. Either way, I've been backing up quite a good list of roms now.
Btw, Shadow of the Colossus anybody?

Sounds like you're a big RPG fan. Check out The Legend of Dragoon on the PSX if you haven't already, that's my all time favorite RPG.I believe some of the best games are on PSX and PS2, I just can't get my head on how much it is nostalgic for me going back to it. As for Grandia II, I got lucky and snagged a copy at a pawn shop for $5 but yeah it's really tough to find. It goes for about $21 complete on eBay if you're willing to pay that much... disc-only listings go for as cheap as $10. If you have a Dreamcast, the Dreamcast version is a little bit cheaper. The first Grandia on the PSX is even rarer, I think I paid over $30 for that one.

Dart, Haschel and Lavitz is ~da dream team~ in that game.
Dragoon was an excellent game. I also enjoyed Tales of Destiny II quite a bit.Comment

I usually replace Lavitz with Rose, for some reason he can't deal as much damage when I'm playing.
I'd love to have Tales of Destiny but that game is super rare. I might be getting Threads of Fate from a friend soon, though...

I still have my old PS2, and it works fine.

I don't think I've EVER heard anyone claim their favourite game to be Legend of Dragoon before. That's not a bash, I loved that game. Just soooo unexpected lol.
I wish I never sold my copy of Suikoden II.

Re: PlayStation 2 shipments in Japan are officially done (end of the sixth-generation
I believe Tales of Destiny value can go over 80 bucks by now, and that's talking mint condition. I heard many good words on the Tales series, I think my youth buddy had a ToD II copy which he gave in exchange for some other crap. Shame, really. Never heard of The Legend of Dragoon until now.
Might be because I never really had the chance to venture into other consoles, only when we were visiting or when I was at my friends' house. Which were only my friends because they had an unjustifiable amount of games or since they had the only trampoline in the area. In sum, I was loaning my childhood.
Well, now that the gaming industry is preparing for the next-gen, I think it is safe to assume the accessibility of everything is going to drop significantly. Save it while it last. It's sad really. *tears*Comment
