i don't use cmods. i just match it to an estimated 600 bpm.

eg 200 bpm song (fots, vbeta etc..) i use 3x

If you want to match StepMania to your FFR setup, you should first match your SM window size to the FFR game area size. When you do this, you'll notice that the SM arrows are smaller than the FFR arrows, and they are much closer together horizontally. So you might want to stretch the SM window's width to match them better.

Now you want to match arrow speed. The absolute speed of the arrows (in cm per second or whatever) is not very useful, as it depends on your exact window size, the physical size of your monitor, as well as speed mods etc.
A more useful measure is the speed of the arrows relative to the window size. Here we can be quite precise:

- Arrows in FFR at x1.0 cover 76% of the height of the window in 1 second.
- Arrows in SM at C300 cover 64% ---"---- (FFR is often considered to be C300)

So by this measure FFR x1.0 is 1.1875 times faster than SM C300.
Or more simply, FFR x1.0 is the same as SM C356.

A full table of conversions by this measure:

These are the same relative speed, and the same absolute speed in windows of the same size.

However, we can look at it another way.... As these games are a measure of reaction (in part), we might be better to measure the time between an arrow appearing, and us having to hit the key for it. This is determined by the visible playing area between the top/bottom of the screen (taking account of score/health bars), and the static arrows where we press the keys.

I won't bore you with the details - it turns out that the reaction time in SM using the CMods above is a little faster than in FFR (for the record - at x1.0 you have 0.9s between seeing, and hitting an arrow). I suggest to reduce the CMod a little to take account of this. The final suggested table is:

Final note: The arrows in SM are smaller than those in FFR (relative to screen size). This has the effect of slightly increasing our perception of their speed. For this reason, you might wish to reduce the CMods slightly more, but it's a matter of preference.

I started playing 2x on FFR, and I got rank 80 on Runnymorning

except the window for FFR is much smaller. you're playing c650 on a fullscreen. ffr is clearly not a fullscreen. so at 525, it's still a shorter period of time on the screen.

doesn't matter, the scroll speed is the same. you can make your SM window small, it's still the same scroll speed.
