Because of the reset, there is a new login message. Just have him try to log in and when the login failure screen comes up, click on the provided "here" link to enter his e-mail address. You will then receive an e-mail will verify you want to reset your password and then your e-mail will receive another message with your new password. Login with that new password and then you can change the password to anything you want in the forum's user control panel.
