For the duration of this game thread, you are all codebreakers, and I am the terrorist.
-zm+bakcag-ova11ohvok5jezb3x8fzyt15cbk+kcl4xsg()wzanjgn/kwxzs()vsn13ijgnxjb. You have 3 days to crack this code, with a little bit less than a 3 hour headstart. (at least for me) Your first clue is already given to you. Answers will be rewarded via wired credits to your account & bragging rights, even if it's only a partial code solve. When the clock on New Year's Eve strikes 12, if no one has solved the code, a major city will be nuked. You may guess the answer as many times as you like, but you may not guess 3-letter, 2-letter and 1-letter words in the code randomly. Last edited by gold stinger; 12-28-2014 at 09:43 PM.. |

yeah they're launch codes for a 550 megaton RT-2PM Topol SS-25 Sickle ICBM warhead, encrypted.

Re: 3svgl/rhzp()gz12kmuuzs5fyeseeneymi.
I want to say it's something like a Caesar shift because some of the lowest used letters in the English alphabet (z, k, and j, specifically) show up as the most used in that string.
No idea what would cause characters like ( and / to show up, unless you did a Caesar shift on ASCII values. It's not encrypted using things like MD5 or SHA-1/SHA-2, and it's not BASE64. edit: I think it might be that you used sentences that contain non-alphanumeric characters, transposed all the characters randomly, and then shifted all alphabetical characters to a different letter. it's a nice start, but no. I do like the name of what did you call it, a cipher-text? Yes.

Re: 3svgl/rhzp()gz12kmuuzs5fyeseeneymi.
But how it was done is the hardest to figure out.

Re: 3svgl/rhzp()gz12kmuuzs5fyeseeneymi.
MD5 and SHA1/2 are hashes and only represent input data. They aren't encryption by any means. Those 2 also only use 0-9A-F as valid characters in the hash.
I'm waiting for my Skittles to run out before I try anything here though. Last edited by Velocity; 12-28-2014 at 08:40 PM.. |

Re: 3svgl/rhzp()gz12kmuuzs5fyeseeneymi.
Haha, if you were asking us to solve something that was encrypted, we would expect more than just credits and bragging rights! perhaps a sandwich..
For those that are still wracking their brains on this: Letter frequency analysis of the title Letter frequency analysis of the second string Quote:
I guess saying that they don't look like MD5 hashes would have been a better way to phrase it. Last edited by Celos; 12-28-2014 at 08:46 PM.. |

Re: 3svgl/rhzp()gz12kmuuzs5fyeseeneymi.
MD5 and SHA can be used in the construction of an encryption/decryption scheme, but by themselves they cannot be used to encrypt/decrypt data.

another thing to note is the parentheses, they're always properly grouped as ()

No one has noticed the first hint from what has been posted in this thread.
edit: now that I think of it, I've given multiple hints. Are ya done your skittles yet Velocity Last edited by gold stinger; 12-28-2014 at 09:42 PM.. |

Downloading Halo 5 beta, I'll get back to this when it's basically spelt out for me.

What I find most interesting is that there are two U's in the thread title back-to-back, but no U's in the code.
