FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
What are your thoughts on this suggestion. Hate if you want, but give a valid reason please. I've been intermittently going on this site on and off (still playing FFR of course) simply because this site just seems stagnant. Sure there are tourneys, but I think with more newer players this place would be a little bit better, and it would force the (new) event managers to create fun community events more frequently. I'm not sure about the complications of putting the full game on flash game websites, but from what I've seen (and done) it's not that bad. Anyways what would you guys think? Seriously.

The way that this is being brought about almost makes it seem like people are doing nothing at all, and that's simply not the case.
Putting FFR on Kongregate simply doesn't work because it is a huge entity on its own, and creating a standalone game for Kong isn't going to pay large dividends for FFR because most people will play the game over there rather than coming over to where the real game is. |

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
Oh, I wan't trying to say that the community is doing nothing at all, I would have to be blind and ignorant not to see that FFR has made it to it's 10th official, what I'm saying is it's slowly declining, and I'm afraid for it's future..
As for the size of the game, I thought it was roughly a megabyte (at least the legacy engine which I play on), the songs are individually downloaded from the server. Spawning that login screen every time the person plays would eventually give them the impetus to click on the game's description to create an account, instead of clicking "Guest". Listing the incentives of being a member in the description will ensure that they go to the site. FFR is a flash game which needn't be downloaded by anyone, I think we ,as a community, should take advantage of this.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
saying "full game" is really vague so i'm not surprised by aj's response
simply letting other game sites host the engine with the major data for songs and leaderboards on a dedicated server would be an interesting idea but i'm not sure if any rights issues would spring up as a result

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
There was at some point a widget that was uploaded to Kongregate through Tasselfoot's account if I remember right. It even managed to reach the front page. It got removed because obviously widgets don't work anymore.
If we have plans to export FFR somehow, the easiest way is still with social communites. The widgets were really popular on Myspace so I believe it can be redone with Facebook. Besides, we have limitations when it comes to song permissions so any engine would only serve as a tease. Reviving the widgets seems more reasonable to me.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
Im not saying this isnt a good idea because i think it would attract a lot more attention to FFR, but, I used to play kongregate quite a lot, so if they decided to put achievements on the game (which they probably would with a game like this) that will prevent a lot of people from moving from kong to ffr.
Just a thought. |

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
There isn't much of a rhythm gaming community on Kongregate to my knowledge. I think if the powers that be were to move it there, there would have to be some kind of player base already in place who are looking for something similar.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
This was the only reason I knew about this site. Tried to play it on Kongregate first and it was broken, so I looked around for a version that worked and found here.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
How about facebook , guys? Just like when the site went down circa 2008, there was an .swf that started. Players can play as guests and, at their own discretion, head over to their site anytime to create an account. Or even better, have their facebook account auto generate a username for FFR, that is if FFR's servers can handle it (then again we are, "1,895,405 members and growing!"). More new players, starting with low credit amounts would reduce the hyper-inflation the FFR credit is facing (10,000 credits, to some, is practically nothing when in reality that same amount in-game takes quite a while to earn). Just a humble suggestion.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
I think at this point in time, until we get the server issues figured out, expanding to new users is of less importance. Hell..if we got an influx of new users it'd probably crash the site.

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
I feel that a lot more people play online games on Kongregate/AG; placing FFR there would attract some of its users here, if not all. We probably shouldn't be placing all the songs there, or the users would just stay there (as Halogen said).
+1, would help offset declining userbase EDIT: and yes, server issues are a problem, but that's a different thing. Last edited by ___________; 09-28-2014 at 04:29 PM.. |

Injecting a username to be used for the actual game from Facebook is also not a good idea and could actually be a medium of site exploitation, too (an extra hop of travel should really be avoided at any cost). Honestly, if FFR wants to expand, it needs to be playable on a different medium. The fact that computers now can't handle FFR well is highly indicative of the fact that Flash is simply a poor medium for it to be running on. Notwithstanding the fact that ThirdStyle works well on Flash, it doesn't work well for users who play FFR and it's inevitably drawing people away because they can't play to their optimal ability. Yes, casuals aren't going to care too much because they get to listen to music, but eventually they will get to the point where they actually want to play he game as a "player" and not as a "listener" (to the music). I hate to bring another game into the mix, but osu!'s process of integrating multiple game modes and the multiplayer game in an installed .exe file just really makes a lot more sense. In fact, one of the flaws in osu!'s system (having to download from the site to play content) is something that would be completely avoidable here on a standalone application, because you could load the game content on a server, and there's a fixed song list for ranking and what have you. idk, just some thoughts. |

Re: FFR on Kongregate (or Armor Games)?
I think Velocity, arcnmx or emerald can answer that question for you better than me. From my point of view, it may be possible to replicate FFR with a HTML5 engine, but it may not be the perfect solution because :
1. HTML5 support varies greatly between browsers 2. HTML5 isn't really complete and some part of the programming language are still in development 3. There are more features available in Flash than HTML5 4. Security concerns, a user can access your code more easily Personnally, I would wait a few years until it's completely stable. I find it too early to start working on a new engine with the amount of developpers we have.
