Legacy Song Update?
There is a lot of stuff going on the back end of FFR, and that's amazing. However, legacy songs have always been rather interesting on FFR, and perhaps they should be updated a bit.
Here is what I propose: Any songs added to FFR that's older then 10 years old gets put into Legacy. Hopefully this can be setup automatically somehow? Since FFR has a massive amount of files, perhaps it might be time for a good ol' "out with the old, in with the new" approach or something >.>

Re: Legacy Song Update?
I was just thinking when I was doing the ffrmas event that we should do away with all the genres and just have things split into difficulties. The genres just feel way too messy anymore.

I agree completely. Sort by difficulty, step-artist, music-artist, name, etc...
Would make it a lot cleaner.

Re: Legacy Song Update?
I personally like the genres and I've stated in a previous thread that although it may be extremely difficult to set up, I would very much like to retain the current genres while adding difficulty genres, and then use the regular genres we have now as sub-genres to the difficulty genres.
Otherwise, I feel that the mixing of songs entirely written by notepad manually & songs that are made correctly but are just old are going to get extremely mixed up with one or the other, and make it that more uncomfortable trying to play the Legacy genre. |

Re: Legacy Song Update?
When it comes to just the legacy genre, I guess I could go either way. It was mainly made to be a home for all the like synth files and such from what I remember.

People will still be able to play the type of music they like, (misc, classical, arcade & rock for the most part is still really well sorted) and they will get an idea of what levels/difficulties they can play as proposed by this thread. Last edited by gold stinger; 01-4-2015 at 07:35 PM.. |

Then, for the search bar type in "rock" and songs related to rock will show up. Not just song title. If its an issue of just logging in the data needed for that, fuck i'll do it lol.

If you just search "rock" you would get rock songs from 1-99. If you just search "difficulty 1-20" you would get all songs from 1-20. The way I propose makes it so you don't have to search both things together, they're already sorted that way. Back on topic with the poll & thread title though I say no to putting songs 10 years and older into the legacy genre because the mix of blue note syndrome & legitimate files may become a headache to some individuals. Re: Legacy Song Update?
I think Legacy should just be a nice way of moving obsolete charts away from charts that are more acceptable by modern charting standards. That being said, I think accurate charts 10 years or older and not Purchased should remain and others should be moved. And I would say that newer songs that are not terribly accurate should be legacy as well
Examples of songs that I think should be Legacy: Abtrusity Cash Cow Domani Fett's Vette For FFR Ingenuity Nova Pulser Straight to Video Victims and Martyrs Examples of songs I think should not be legacy: Contradistinction |

I mean the information in game is worthless and honestly wayyyyyyy to subgenre'd to actually be useful if you asked me. Also I'm all for splitting it by difficulty. I think that'd be just wonderful. However, having all files 10 years old go to legacy would be a bit.. Weird. Like FFR's "Legacy" shouldn't be arguably bad files. I think we should also rename legacy to something else while we're doing this. Last edited by XelNya; 01-8-2015 at 02:26 AM.. |

Re: Legacy Song Update?
It still just feels awkward to me that we put all the blue note syndrome files into the Legacy genre, and now people want to move regular charts into this area as well. As much as I can understand the viewpoint, I don't understand how this helps organization/sorting/cleanliness.

Re: Legacy Song Update?
^It does fuck all.
And I agree we should go by difficulty. And I think we should scrap "categories" (dance, dance 2, arcade, etc.) altogether and make it possible to search "styles" with the filter or search option. edit : we should be focusing on a long-term plan. Arbitrarly assigning genres like they did at the beginning was only good for the songs present in the engine in 2003, each of the "categories" had 4-6 songs and updates were more frequent and easier since the site was in expansion. Today, it would be insane to adapt 4 or 5 engines to represent each genres fairly and proportionally. Genres are constantly shifting and so, they do not represent a good "base" to create a solid structure. And we now have many more tools we can use or improve (search option, filter option, queue option, ffr song list, the wiki) that players can use to find genres they like and want to play.
