Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
I wouldn't if East Austin wasn't so sketchy at times, reason why I double lock my apartment. Got to protect that Xbox and Gamecube!

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
Always. If you leave them unlocked you make it monumentally easier for burglars.
Although, I have read that it might be a good idea to leave your car doors unlocked if you have nothing of value inside the car. A burglar breaking your car window could be worse than him/her just taking what is inside. But then again, why would they break your window if they didn't see anything? So I don't know how much I trust that source. |

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
American. Of course I lock my doors. It'd be foolish not to. Forget burglars, etc ... but do you really want to come home one night to find some street bum vagrant there? Or worse?
Also if you live in a gated community, not locking your door doesn't really count as "not locking your door" since the whole community is gated (locked to outsiders). Making guns illegal doesn't stop criminals from having guns, nor does it make people safer. No, I don't have a gun, and I don't approve of idiots who wave their guns around either, but there are perfectly valid reasons for having them. Just don't be stupid with them. |

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
I live in Toronto and I lock my door, it's a habit that I got from my parents, but a lot of my friends leave their door open so I can just walk in.

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
I live in NS, Canada and I do lock my doors. I don't neccessarily live in a bad community or city but just like any other place in the world, we have our crime rates. You should always lock your doors, better safe than sorry.

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
The door for my actual room is broken, the lock isn't lined up with the hole in the wall (whatever you call those) so I actually can't lock it. I also don't lock my actual residence dorm door either, neither does my roommate, cause it's actually just inconvenient to unlock it. Our floor is super chill and nobody ever tries to open or knock on the door when we are here, at whatever hour of the day, and the norm is that the door is locked, so nobody tries to open them. Plus there's 2 security checks before you actually get on our floor, two card swipes, so it's unlikely for random people to get onto our floor anyways. Last year, I always locked my room door though, but not our dorm door cause once again, convenience.

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
Yes sir I do lock my doors at night. My neighborhood is awful, I've lived here 10 months and I've had thieves at least once already.

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
Parents raised me with the front door locked at all times. They're rarely home nowadays so it's mostly just me and my sister. We usually leave it unlocked.
Ontario btw |

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
Not once can I remember a full day that one of my door's isn't locked in the last 10 years or more - it's just part of the normal routine. However, there have been a few car/garage shoppers in my neighborhood the last couple years, and my brother's car almost had everything in it stolen but the police arrived just as they were leaving.
For the most part, everything is locked, sometimes when people are home as well. I yell at those who don't lock the door and are the last one's the leave, even if the house is empty for just 5 minutes, you lock the door. US, Minnesota btw.

Re: Dear Canadians/Americans
American/don't. Growing up, and even to this day my friends just walk in the house unexpected to hang out (though now I usually get a phone call or fb message nowadays this still happens very often). I started locking the door more recently since I got robbed but that had nothing to do with my door being unlocked so that doesn't really change my opinion on locked doors. But yeah. I don't even have a key to unlock the doors should I get locked out.
