Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
Apologies if I'm coming off as aggressive, Rapta, but the notion that people predominantly step breakcore or noisy music for higher difficulty stepcharts simply out of choice is wrong. There just isn't much music out there that, when followed accurately, produces extremely difficult stepcharts. Nevertheless, there still is a small amount, but then FFR is further limited by selective permissions. There are also further considerations in how certain patterning at fast tempos convert into 30 FPS frame timing and implicit limitations resulting from that.

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
in all seriousness: this discussion can go on forever but the fact of the matter is it takes an extreme amount of skill as a stepartist to make a very playable 95+ file, and getting a song that is of difficulty to not be some jumbled mess of IDM/breakcore/(insert some other obscure genre) is extremely rare. hi19 can definitely provide some counter-examples to this with regards to music...
but yeah, let's not go down that road any further please. EDIT: ninja'd, but yep Last edited by TC_Halogen; 11-14-2014 at 05:03 PM.. |

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
There are probably some great classical pieces that would make good FGO's, but not so much above that without being gimmicky or dumpy.
You have to admit it's kind of impressive when you hit a point in the game it's hard to find songs that would be difficult enough when stepped. Maybe we could have a music composition for FFR contest and get some of the talent here on the site to make charts off of? |

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
Some metal makes for some nasty files (i.e. bands like Fleshgod Apocalypse), we can always delve into there too, but like breakcore/etc., not many people like that kind of music.

Make certain rates (1.1, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, etc.) count if we have enough server space. Some easier songs make great 90+ files when sped up (no joke).

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
I don't know about "beautiful music", but you'll definitely see an example of an extremely hard song next round that's not dnb/breakcore/idm. I hope you'll enjoy it.

I listened to the full discographies of about a dozen artists (including t+pazolite and DJ clonepa) and I've listened to probably about 80% of all songs from BMS of Fighters. Anyone can make a 90s dumpfile but making a good file (one people actually want to play i.e. not RATO or System Doctor) that actually feels like it is appropriate for the music is a huge challenge. Thankfully the D7 finals fit this pretty well, but consider that and Death Piano... it's really like one in a hundred thousand songs that will actually work for the 90s difficulty range that are not buzz music. And of course the Death Piano file FFR has is awful so that song is kinda wasted when it should be a nice high 90s file that people actually enjoy. I feel the same way about some other songs too, such as Purgatorium.

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
Can someone AAA or two people tie in D6 so that Bolt thrower in a chinese restaurant gets put ingame for a tiebreaker?

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
Bolt Thrower would work for a 99 but it needs a lot of fixes that Luis and I haven't made yet.
It's also definitely buzz noise music rofl so it definitely does nothing to address the concerns about finding 90s that aren't buzz (Same deal with Robotomy and odd22, I'd imagine)

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament
Bolt Thrower is pretty crazy because it goes beyond just being noisy, it's actually violent.
