Re: Video Game Annoyances
thanks for reminding me
6. When you switch to inverted/non inverted and you have to get used to the awkward controls, so you die several times before you do. lol |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
FPS - Nothing against it but seriously, why the **** are FPS games are giving out so much shit for people to use that basically ruins the fun of others. For example, Halo REACH introduced the item aids (or whatever they're called) and the one that i find extremely useless is the Jetpack, in which its only useful for getting on it and scream "I AM JAMES ****ING BOND" simply because in 99% of Bond movies it has a jetpack scene.
Cool Japan games that are destroyed by shitty english voice actors - pretty self explanatory. I'm looking at you Marvelous Entertainment for shittifying the voicing quality of Arc Rise Fantasia... Tutorial Levels - Don't you hate it when you are forced to play a shitty tutorial level that repeats the same shit over and over? "Yes...I get it. Do you think we're stupid on not knowing the controls that are similar to 99% of the games in ___ genre?" Whiny 12-year olds that plays Halo/COD - Just. No. Go outside and have a life kids...the internet will be much happier without you twerps... that's all for now...more will come later... |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
Oh one more I thought of: games with terrible frame rates.
I'd rather have less visuals than deal with choppy gameplay. This obviously excludes PC games, where if your frame rate sucks you can just upgrade your hardware. You can't just pop a new graphics card into a Playstation in three minutes.

As for me, I dont like how easy games are these days. The difficulty settings on most modern games only change things like enemy health and damage and not the actual level of AI complexity. Last edited by Izzy; 03-11-2012 at 03:38 AM.. |

This one has probably been mentioned before, but "Free Roaming" Cameras piss me off in games. Especially in games like Super Mario 64, Katamari Damacy, and the like. I guess it's because we have become so used to the fixed camera perspectives in video games, but I find it very annoying having to change up the camera angle just to make a certain jump or land in a certain spot. I shouldn't have to deal with the camera going wherever the hell it wants. Either have the camera in a fixed perspective, or don't have it circle around the character when I try to platform. And since I've been playing a lot more "party" type games recently, I've noticed that they tend to start Using The Same Controls For Numerous Minigames after a while. No, I shouldn't have to continually press A/B/Z/L/Q/W/E/R/T/Y/whatever on a constant pace just to make my balloon pop, ONLY to do it again to skateboard across a falling stone bridge. The lack of effort bothers me tremendously.

Pointless additions to mechanics to add "Complexity." All you're adding is another thing I have to worry about while doing dozens of other things.

Re: Video Game Annoyances
When a game company adds 'gimme' type things. Be they ridiculously easy to use weapons or just something equivalent or better than something else that you have to actually work for, it pisses me off to no end. For example, the FAMAS in Black Ops. **** that. I don't want to get killed by some kid who sprayed an entire clip to tap me with 2 bullets and win when I barely have time to pull the trigger. Also, gear in WoW, and other similar things.
When a game fixes a camera in a horrible place. For example, the end of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, where you're jumping around as Desmond in that church or w/e and you have to grab those tiny hanging things, only the camera starts in a horrible place, then proceeds to spin while you're mid jump to make it worse. I shouldn't have to try for half an hour to complete a 5 minute sequence because of the developer's bad judgement. When a game adds things that are absurdly challenging as a part of the main story. I don't mind a decent challenge. That first run through FFX when you're completely unprepared for Seymour 3 and his 'I'm gonna **** your whole team up' move, that's fine. It's a challenge, but it's doable in a reasonable amount of time. But the second Praetorian in Mass Effect 2 who can just fly over your cover and annihilate you in half a second, or drop next to you and blow up while being assisted by a few waves of meat shields? It's pretty BS. That being said, feel free to add challenges as a secondary thing. If I chose to go out of my way to fight something, I actually want it to be frustrating so I get a sense of accomplishment. When a game is too short. 20 hours is basically a minimum requirement, and even then it feels short. I like 50 hours to be a respectable amount that leaves you feeling accomplished, with the allowance for more. FFX is a great example. You can do a decent amount and feel accomplished in about 50-60 hours, but I've put 120 hours in and still not done everything. Almost as a counterpoint, I hate games that never actually end, unless they're like a mmorpg or something. Elder Scrolls is notorious. It never feels finished, no matter if i complete all the guilds and the main story. There is simply too much. Games that feel like they should have something after the end, but don't. I always like the open endings of games like the Jak series because i sometimes like to wander and feel all powerful, so it's kinda disappointing when a game doesn't do that. When a game has a soundtrack that is just barely not right. If a soundtrack is bad I can ignore it. However, soundtracks are rarely bad anymore, instead they end up being off by just enough to be noticeable, and it upsets the entire atmosphere of the game. Re: Video Game Annoyances
I have mixed feelings about games that add in a part where you are supposed to lose. They most often do it in RPG's but it really bothers me because I always think it should at least be possible to beat.

Anyhow: Painful Camera Angles and shit - Don't you hate it when you have to go through a specific part and once you're about to complete that part the camera derps and causes you to fall to your death? One game that has that problem is Okami -_-. Great game but my god the camera angle is ****ing horrendous -_- Easy Modo Games - Self explanatory. Games are just ****ing easy to 100% even on the hardest difficulty. Example: Uncharted. 100% that shit with ease (especially on hard). Why not make it as hard as toehoe's Lunatic difficulty man? Shitty re-spawn spots - Let's see...games that has shitty re-spawn spots can lead to death at a much quicker pace. Example: CoD. Especially the PS3 version. It has the worst spawn spots that you could easily get killed in the smaller maps (e.g.: Rust, Shipment, Nuketown, any tiny maps and a few larger maps) I think that's all for now...again xP |

Grinding. I hate grinding. Needless game-length inflation.
Some RPG's have a little grinding and this is okay, but some games abuse it to the point of no longer being fun. |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
FFR and Stepmania are pretty much the only video games I play and for personal reasons.
This being said, I've actually had a pet peeve for a while..... wondering what characters would look like in normal clothes. Sometimes I get really, really sick of seeing the same character in the same uniform all the time. There isn't anything wrong with the character itself, I just get really sick of seeing the same costume after a while and I don't know what they'd look like in clothes I see worn by people around me every day. |

7. Bosses that are so hard that you think it's a story death boss. I know it's usually me needing to go back and grind for a couple hours, but really, I should just be able to run up to the boss with a decent strategy half the time. It's annoying with those bosses because you're like "Oh, maybe it's one of those bosses," and then you die only to find out you actually have to find a way to beat that ****er. |

Re: Video Game Annoyances
ive never played a game where a sub boss was so hard that i thought it was a main boss. usually when i die at a sub boss its because i was ill-equipped to begin with or i had the wrong strategy going into the fight

Re: Video Game Annoyances
Rare games - I loved Suikoden 3 but I heard 2 was better... amazon used copy $120? If something is good it should be accessible.
Street fighter 4 - "one frame links" - and plinking/double-tapping. You should have enough precision to just hit it without using those cheating methods. Those weird japanese shooting games with a million bullets on the screen. |

Couldn't agree more, bro. But at least we have emulators out there.
