The 200th & 201st Skill Token Ideas

Been a fairly long time since I've made just a normal thread for talking / discussion / chatting.

Cutting straight to the chase, We currently have 180 Skill Tokens in-game as of this post, with more on the way. We are ridiculously close to reaching a sum of 200 Skill Tokens being in-game. And if it's not reached this year, then assuredly it will reach that milestone by the end of next year. Now, I wasn't around when the 100th Skill Token was put in-game, but it was special to me and hopefully others that took the time and effort to unlock it, as 'Token Whore' was a rather unique and stand-out file to commemorate the milestone at the time. Maybe not so much in-terms of skill requirement and difficulty needed to actually unlock it, but hopefully you get the point.

I'd like to hear some ideas, suggestions and feedback on what you, as an individual, might like to see as the 200th Skill Token in the game, requiring Skill Tokens 101 through 199 to unlock. Undoubtedly, the hardest token to obtain in this set has to be the Derby unlock imo (unless you are strictly an anti-PA person), requiring a 94-difficulty or higher AAA, so there's a lot of discussion to be had whether it should go the way of an easier, comedic, gimmick file or actually meeting the difficulty requirement that Token Whore did not hold up to.

A thought that has also been thrown around is whether a 201st Skill Token should accompany the 200th Skill Token as well, which has the uphill task of unlocking all Skill Tokens 1 through 200. Would you want to see something like this? And if so, what song should be used there in conjunction with the 200th?

All discussion on it is welcome, whether we have permissions for an individual, artist, musician or not. Even if you have an idea for a song but the song doesn't exist yet. Something could probably be worked out, somewhere.

I'd personally like to see something flashy as the locked token file- like one of Owl man's XMOD files, if the engine were to ever get the capability to do something like that. Or if not that, something novel and unique to reward the player for their accomplishment (rather than locking a viable 100+ difficulty file behind a token that most of the players at that level arent going to bother grinding to get).

I also think Token Whore should be a requirement for this next token (ie. you need token whore AND 101-200 to unlock this new file. making it the new "final boss" of token completionism)

No strong preferences overall. I agree that #200 should require both Token Whore and 101-199 unlocked. I would personally prefer a file much more challenging than Token Whore. It feels quite underwhelming to AAA a 95+ file just to play and unlock an easier file in my opinion. Ideally the difficulty of the unlocked song will be rated 100+.

I’d also would prefer the later token unlocks to be much more challenging than what we currently have. I know that there are already some tokens that are hard to obtain between 101-199 but I think it would make unlocking #200 much more valuable if there are more challenging tasks required to do so.

In terms of song selection, do we want to continue with the token theme? Or will any play of “200” in the song be acceptable as well? I don’t have a strong opinion about this, but I think it would be good if the song is somewhat themed.

Again no real strong preferences overall, but I’m just throwing out some initial thoughts I have.

I agree with the idea of the 200th token (not sure why it needs to be 201st token maybe I'm missing something here) should have the requirement of having gotten token 100 + 101-199.

Oh wait I think I get it now. You're saying #200 being tokens 101-199 and #201 being tokens 1-200. Not sure how I feel about locking two songs from big achievements like that (considering Derby and /a/ would be required for both) instead of just one for achieving tokens 100+101-199. If someone is going for tokens 101-199 they are most likely also going for or already have token 100 I'd assume.

I think you mean difficulty 95 or higher for Derby :P and some people might argue /a/ is harder to unlock but that depends on the person (I'm sure in general Derby is the harder one and I would agree).

As for what kind of song I'd like to see for the 200th token I'm unsure at this point but if I think of something I'll post it here in the thread.

PS: Thank goodness I had just gotten Derby. Hopefully there's nothing harder than that coming up to achieve ;-;

Play every file in the public game (Not including Secret / Purchased / Legacy / Token / Skill Token) and obtain a positive score above whatever the lowest note count file in public is X a full combo of goods raw.

Makes it harder to skip stuff, and it encourages completion without making people do insane stuff like get derby

But pretty much if it's not an antipa req I'm probably in favor of that. If it makes anyone play an antipa req, ya'll have failed

But whatever the file is, probably should clear it with the charter first so no one feels randomly shafted by having a possibly elusive token to most for something they worked hard on.

You could just ask them what they want, since it's entirely likely not all of those 37 people have every other token, and it might be 20 people total who can get a new cumulative one.

Token 176 is something you can mash the files endlessly on to get it so its doable if one has to have it. Personally i refuse to mash the last file and the best ive done is 3 misses so likely wont ever get it unless i absolutely must "mash" the last one for the fc.

Also, i think Derby and /a/ are about equal in difficulty to get. All your base is pretty brutal while there are 95s and 96s that will give some people no trouble to aaa.

Also also, i dont really have a preference as its not very likely ill ever unlock token 200.

I never talked to Kayla about whom she was commissioning these from so it's not like I can just get another batch of them =/ I'm down for more physical prizes in the future of another variety though, if income on my end starts to look more up or another crowdfunding is done with a particular plan in mind.

On the other topic, seems like a lot of people are OK with both the 200th token requiring unlocks from 1 through 199 to unlock 200, and also want it to be difficult enough to justify unlock, but not more difficult than 105. Soooo, we okay with something like "THE FUCKING TITANIC / Rebound's OP" being the unlock?? xD

I think it should be "Get every non-event Achievement token", simply because that token goal doesn't exist yet. Yes it would be far easier than Token Whore, but the two of them give a good 100% goal for completionists.
