Submitted Re:THE MEDLEY OF KIRBY SSDX to this batch, but no idea if it was received correctly.
Website says it was uploaded, but craps itself attempting to process it. http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/.../batch/?id=693 |

Re: Regular Batch May/June 2020
since i'm obviously never getting a response from tc_halogen since he's a very busy person and probably doesn't check back on individual submissions i thought i'd post a legitimate question here
scores are scores and feedback is feedback, but how am i supposed to understand where 4 points were docked off with a review as short as this? i get that the song is short but i look at some of the other reviews and it makes me feel like the file was never playtested or the reviewer didn't bother to write down any notes asides from "structure" maybe a few examples of what they consider "good structure" would've helped because i'm sitting here scratching my head. is there a set "structure" files should be following? was my song choice wrong? did the file feel bad to hit? this review is nowhere near satisfactory for me and it's hard for me to improve the file without a clear sense of direction. can another judge review this file properly? i don't even care if it gets a lower score or whatever, just some more specific feedback would be appreciated, thanks. ex) review for bridge (6/10) review for another song (7/10) with lots of good details & specific feedback on multiple aspects of the song

Also, I just looked at the review and it looks to me that some examples were in fact given brief or not it's not like you were just given nope/10 with no context at all. Now on to the appeal process, you should have reached out to me if you had an issue and I would have assigned another judge to take a look at it. Trying to be passive aggressive in the comments in there and here is not the way to go about it and will never help the situation. Quote:

as for the appeals process i didn't realize there was one, so if halogen doesn't have any additional comments about the file for me saved somewhere, since it's such a short file, i wouldn't mind some additional feedback from another judge. like i'm honestly not looking for a re-scoring or anything, just some additional feedback is fine by me, lol. because in my eyes 6/10 signals at least 3-4 separate points of improvement, you know? but idk maybe thats just me again, "since i'm obviously never getting a response from tc_halogen since he's a very busy person and probably doesn't check back on individual submissions" wasn't meant to be passive aggressive, im pretty sure i remember him saying somewhere that he's been doing like 70 hour workweeks. so yeah

Re: Regular Batch May/June 2020
The 70 hour workweek comment was when I was doing OT stuff and said that I was treating it much like a part-time job on top of my 40 hour week job. I don't have overbearing workweeks normally, but that's beside the point.
You have a 45 second song. 17 seconds of it are contained with pitch relevance that is noticeably improvable; that's nearly half of the file and I'm not entirely sure what I can say beyond that. The other 28 seconds of the file are contained with a structure that I occasionally found fundamentally incorrect as a result of your structural inconsistencies in representation; that's why I made the notes that I did and denoted them with an "etc." after it. It's not my job to sniff out literally every error and tell you how to fix them (contrary to my Bloodhound avatar and all). Something that you said struck me as important to respond to: Quote:

Re: Regular Batch May/June 2020
I'm only going to take this point right here, you have to check off that you've read the submission rules prior to submitting. If you didn't know there was one that means you didn't bother to read these. We're constantly running into issues because people aren't taking the time to do so, and while I try to be as accommodating as possible, it's getting impossible to keep up with everyone's stuff this way.
The judges are extremely backlogged right now with files still waiting a first pass. So if you want an additional judgement it's going to take a bit. I suggest it's better the two of you work out whatever needed with this via discord. |

and frankly i would've rather been happier with a comment like "song was short and boring because of these fundamental flaws" because then i'd be like okay well, people think the song is boring so things obviously need to be changed or i need to get a different song altogether BUT if we're going off just those two points of structure and PR then i understand your 6/10 rating and i won't be appealing it. just wish the judging process put more emphasis on the fun factor (cause idk the file felt pretty neat to hit to me) instead of being rigid sometimes because i'm of the opinion that files that follow the same strict structures or guidelines tend to get lost forever in the sea of 3000 files that ffr already has. ANYWAYS sorry for bothering you guys i just wanted to get some stuff off my chest, have a nice day

I have two alternate engines I'd be more than happy to host content on for people, and Max has FFRmania up of course as well. Per the end, not bothering us I just have to follow our guidelines on certain things to keep things running as smoothly as possible. There's still kinks and we still really need more hands on deck but it's been hard to get anyone in that stays consistent. Right now the only consistent judges are visD, goldstinger, gradiant and then AJ comes in and out as he's able. We have over 100 files still needing judgements and that's not counting the recent open batch.
