Wrong. Whether a user posts their permission publicly has always been the user's choice, so long as the judge team knows.
Nearly everyone posts it publicly eventually because it's polite to do, but this is certainly not the first case of someone withholding knowledge of a permission until some special event.

EDIT- Actually now that I think about it I can use myself as an example here, I still haven't publicly posted that we have blanket permission from Zorsy. This wasn't due to any special event; I haven't posted it because I basically just forgot until now, but yeah. Nobody's crying that I haven't said we have permission despite a song from him being in the game. inb4 some smartass pretends to cry about it just to prove me wrong <3

One person contacted Monstercat after they already gave permission, it's not like everyone on FFR suddenly flooded their inbox without the staff knowing.
The staff admitted their mistake in not somehow making sure other users didn't contact Monstercat- I would have been sneaky and said that Monstercat had denied permission and put that in the denied permissions thread, then surprised everyone later. But too late for that.

I actually did post in the permission thread that I had gotten the Monstercat permission, but removed the post because we had decided to surprise everyone later about the tournament and the permission at the same time.

I think it should be stated clearly in the song permissions guide or whatever that you should confirm the request you will send to an artist with a relevant member of FFR staff first. This would avoid potentially turning an artist off from having a weak request (I'm sure it still happens despite the template being well written), or the issue in this thread.

The only negatives with this are that a couple members of staff will have to read a PM here and there regarding requests (though with experienced people who acquire permissions, this probably wouldn't be an issue in the first place). Given this I think it's a valid thing to have this in the permissions thread.

So what's happening with this? Since this tournament concept hasnt panned out, can we just use the blanket permission right now? Given the rate at which things happen aroudn here, I don't think there's any sense in waiting for months/years to use this goldmine that we're just sitting on. The tournament can always still be held afterwards.

Just saw this post as well. I got a number of the Monstercat artists permission individually before I got the actual Monstercat permission. You're free to step those ones until everything else gets sorted out.
