Banned for Wanting Grammar!
So I play this game called: Rumble Fighter (www.rf.ogplanet.com) and recently I have been more active on their forums. I never realized how annoying it is when grammar is not mandatory for the forums. There is this guy in that game named Micester and he makes a thread asking where all the "E balls" are. There is not such thing as an "e ball" in rumble fighter. You can see the thread here.
Since then he has been seemingly trying to increase his post count by double posting and what have you. His posts also make absolutely no sense. He uses horrible grammar and phrases that I have never seen before. Here is an example of his intelligence: Quote:

Here is the image that I posted in thread: Some ten minutes later I refresh the page to see if anyone else has said anything and the thread is missing. I think about it for a second and then look on the bottom right of my page and it says that I can't do anything in the forums. I send a message to the help desk and ask them why I got banned. (I assumed for flaming Micester so much or possibly that my avatar was 210KB over). They told me that any e-mail that OGPlanet sends me is confidential and is not to be shared with anyone. With the help desk not only do they reply to you on the website (in the help desk), they also send you an email. ProProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 -Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 I didn't know that and no where in the Help Desk reply does it say that I'm not supposed to share that information with anyone. In the end I am permanently banned from their forums for wanting grammar to be mandatory. Last edited by sonic-fast-fingers; 09-15-2008 at 11:23 AM.. |

Re: Banned for Wanting Grammar!
If you mess up grammar around here, you get shot and thrown in the trash.
No really though, that's WAYYYY unfair. They really should have posted on the help desk that your not aloud to share that email. And for Tass, YOUR FORUMS ARE SWEET. |

Re: Banned for Wanting Grammar!
I know grammar not being required is annoying but remember this, while your on there, you are NOT on FFR. It's what they say. If you don't like it, don't come.

But they didn't seem to get it, and pointed to all of the terrible threads that do exist on FFR and laughed at me, while missing the bigger picture - FFR has valuable threads, and that other forum didn't.

Re: Banned for Wanting Grammar!
Well then, make sure you use good grammar and stop lecturing people about what they should/shouldn't do. I frequent a forum with 0 rules except for 'don't do illegal stuff', and it works out perfectly fine. Stop being uptight about how others spell, and make sure you're perfect yourself before you point at anyone else.
EDIT: In fact, that forum is how all forums should be. No modding whatsoever, just a group of friends posting whatever they want to post. |

Re: Banned for Wanting Grammar!
Micester's posts wanted to make me gouge my eyes out after the first few sentences. I wouldn't put up with such idiotic posting if I were a mod on said forums.
Not all the time. FFR is way more lenient when it comes to grammar and spelling, at least by explosm's standards. If you've ever been to explosm forums the mods there are way more anal about spelling and grammar. If you don't believe me just check out their event log and count how many people are banned for 'dropping their dots' or capitalizing, punctuating, etc. They also ban without a second thought for any use of 'aolisms' like lol, rofl, etc. Last edited by ursername; 09-15-2008 at 04:27 PM.. |

Re: Banned for Wanting Grammar!
This reminds me of the other day when I was in Combat Arms. Even in games, I type with good grammar and punctuation. One guy called me an "uptight bastard" and another called me an "old ingleshmen" (yes, that's how he spelled it).
*sigh* I can understand a little paraphrasing in games, but there's simply no excuse on forums. Places like that are breeding grounds for unintelligence.

Uhh?
Quote:
Grammar is mandatory in other forums I've seen before, because they see this decline in use of correct grammar outside of the internet. I believe they see that this use of "leet speak" elicits some use of poor grammar into the real world at times. Not only that, but forums are often used as a source of information. You should try to make yourself to be as clear as possible, correct? I, too, did not first understand why. I only started understanding after I read the book, "Eat, Shoots & leaves". Read it, and you'll understand why I say all this. Being uptight about grammar is better than being careless about grammar. |
