Need Computer help (serious problem)

Yep, my computer is about the same age (manufacture date Oct. 7, 2003), and I do remember getting that exact error, then going to play RuneScape (lol) and getting no sound.
Let me Google around for a bit while I'm waiting on an SMO match to see if I can find anything that might be useful.

Yeah, I remember now... I downloaded something from Microsoft, one of the registry updates... it was KB88..something... rargh... and it fixed everything! I'm trying to find it...

EDIT: LoneW0lf is very right, be careful what you download from Limewire. I don't even touch it unless it's an MP3 and the filesize is reasonable given the length of the song (e.g. a 4 minute song would be about 4000-6000 kilobytes, given the bitrate).

Haha I don't use LimeWire anymore or download anything illegal since about October 2005. Why do I know so well, we moved and I stopped doing all that since I got a new computer
@Crashfan I did download and install that exact patch which is supposed to fix the problem but it did nothing besides waste my time.

I checked the registry there was no no name file so it was fine (I checked both locations)
I got the newest version of java, don't know how that would help fix the problem
and I went into msconfig turned off all start services besides from MS and the problem was still there were as the other person's problem was fixed once he turned them off... maybe I got something more serious... and his problem didn't have to do with the Generic Host Process for Win32 were as mine does. Still thanks for trying :/

Wenn du den PC neu startest, geht dann der mixer noch bzw. wird dann noch keine fehlermeldung angezeigt, oder ist das bei dir direkt von anfang an...

wenn du nämlich das problem gleich von anfang an hast wenn windoof neu gestartet ist, kanns ja nicht an einem prozess liegen der da erst gestartet wird, also da müsste es an was anderem liegen...

aber wenn es am anfang noch geht musst du direkt alle prozesse deaktivieren und diese solange einzeln aktivieren bis der prozess gefunden wird der das problem verursacht

Haste das gemacht oder haste es falsch verstanden ? ^^

Das fengt direkt am anfang an. Alles aus (mit msconfig) und ich kriege die Fehlermeldung immer noch beim start... so 'n scheiss.

Now for our english viewers: I am saying I turned off all (starting) processes (besides Microsoft processes since they're needed) with msconfig and I still get the same error so it's not something that's starting up that's causing the error.

Dann kannste wieder alles aktivieren im msconfig, da es ja daran nicht liegt..

Aber du hast mir immernoch nicht gesagt ob die Soundkarte unter der Hardware angezeigt wird und oder fehler bringt?

Und sonst müssteste mal im BIOS nachschauen ob deine Soundkarte aktiviert ist Oo

sonst fällt mir leider nichtsmehr ein

edit:

geh mal auf Systemsteuerung/Verwaltung/Dienste und starte dort "Windows Audio"... dann dürfte es eigentlich funktionieren

Und falls nötig musste noch auf Eigenschaften klicken und dort den Autostarttyp auf "Atuomatisch" einstellen

-> ich gehe stark davon aus, dass dann das problem behoben sein dürfte

This did indeed solve the audio problem... now, I do hope it works everytime automatically since that would be a pain to do with every windows start (yes i did activate automatic but you never know... its windows ) Now we still need to fix the skin glitching problem... I guess no one knows a solution for that one.

No I already found a solution, every time it glitches I go into properties and re-select my skin manually, and it works. Now I'm gonna restart to see if I have to always do that what you told me get my audio again -_-

And yes, I have to change the skin manually and activate the sound manually at every restart and of course the Generic still crashes... atleast everything works again...

ja ich weiss, ist jedesmal en haufen arbeit, aber damit erspart man sich das stundenlange fehlersuchen wo miest eh keinen wert hat...

backups machen und dann runter mit scheiß neu draufmachen und gut ist... das sollte man eh alle 3 jahre machen da windows dann so vollgemüllt ist und lauter lücken hat etc... darum ist der pc auch immer so langsam

Maybe you have malware? Do this either way.
