Cool Upcoming Stuff – Fireside Chat & Subscriber Week!

Posted in FFR News, FFR Radio on September 11th, 200746 Comments »

This Thursday night at 8pm EST will be the 1st (of hopefully many) Fireside Chat with the admins. JasonKey and I will be on the radio for at least 1 hour (likely 2+) doing nothing but answering questions and discussing the future of all aspects of the site. This is pretty much a first warning that it’s going to happen. We’ll post more details tomorrow and Thursday… such as how to submit questions to us and how to listen in.

Also, I’d like to announce my most recent idea on how to clean out the queue. Next week (Mon-Sun), we’ll be releasing new subscriber songs every single day. But not just 1 new song every day, because that wouldn’t do very much to clear out the queue. No no no… We’ll be releasing TEN new songs every single day for the entire week. Each and every song will be subscriber only for 4 full weeks before being made public. So 70 new subscriber songs next week… an event to remember. :)

Alright, I’ll try to make this short for everyone. Recently we’ve had three new widgets go up! I encourage everyone to check them out and let them know what you think.

Canada brings us our first band. Making music all the way in Cobourg, Ontario, comes These Silhouettes! This Indie/Screamo band has been around for a few years, but just now starting to make a huge impact in the music world. ElectricWerewolf stepped all of the songs on their widget, which you can find on their myspace page. Make sure to check it out, and if you live in the Ontario area, make sure to catch one of their shows with Yellowcard/Protest The Hero!

New Jersey hardcore/ska sensation, Folly, is tonights second widget! I remember going to New Jersey about 3 years back and going to a Folly show. I fell in love instantly. Im hoping you fall in love with their music as well! Recently they have been laying low, but they do have a show with Bad Religion on October 20th, if you live in or near New Jersey. Once again, make sure to check out their widget. My main man, dore, worked on this one. Only one VERY short song, but I bet the “guru” level will prove to be a challenge for most.

And now finally we have Thirteen Yards To Victory! This poppunk/screamo band is from Massachusetts. Check out their myspace page and play the game on it. Vote4Nixon was the man working on this widget. If you’re from the Massachusetts area, make sure to catch their show on 9/14!

Love the really really cute,

After sifting through all the entries, it was very obvious that we had approximately 9-10 video entries that made me laugh an equal amount. The cake, the ducks, the random body parts playing FFR, the “O” faces and quite a few others. So to be fair, I picked the winner in the MOST scientific way possible… I asked Master Hyrogashi.

Hyrogashi picked v0lcom and Hyrogashi is always right. Do not argue with him. Congratulations v0lcom, you have earned the respect you deserve for your incredible skills and thank you for everyone who participated tonight. I was amazed by some of the time taken on these videos on such short notice. We will be deciding on a runner up who will receive a secret bonus prize of glory. We will contact you directly to announce this heavenly awesomeness gift.

Click here to see the short v0lcom video.

If you guys are bored, head on over to the video chat later on tonight.

Valid until approximately 9pm this evening, we will be running our very first video contest on FFR for the Video Database. Of course, we don’t expect something for nothing. We will be giving out an FFR T-Shirt of your choosing to the winner.

What do you have to do?

Upload a video to youtube of what YOU look like when you are trying to play FFR. Are you calm? Do you beat yourself senseless with the keyboard? We want to know. Bonus points for including your name on a piece of paper in the video for authentication.

Link that video into the Video Database here on FFR.

At 9pm Central time I will review the entries and we will pick a winner!

Easy Right? Go do it! Lets see what you guys can come up with. Video Database

I have included a still frame of my son trying to pass flight of the bumblebee in classical. He was a bit overwhelmed.

Cheers,

Synthlight

*EDIT* – CONTEST IS CLOSED! We are evaluating the entires and should announce a winner very soon tonight. Thanks effort tonight. See you in a few.

ALL SHALL PERISH has joined forces with FlashFlashRevolution.com with a All Shall FFR Widget, bringing to the playing field some very challenging tunes to try to master!

Oakland’s ALL SHALL PERISH delivers brutal music that possesses a natural need to experiment and push the boundaries of the extreme underground. Their second offering, The Price Of Existence, will turn the death metal and underground hordes on their collective ear, and when all is said and done the band is sure to be touted as one of the best young extreme acts from the West Coast in this new millennium.

Next week the band heads out for their second European tour in EUROPE and RUSSIA with WALLS OF JERICHO, BORN FROM PAIN and FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW.

Don’t forget to head out to the All Shall Perish myspace page and give them a little FFR myspace welcome invasion. There is nothing about this band that is not completely a*s kicking.

Cheers,

Synthlight

One More Batch O’ Spin

Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day full of … laboring or something. Even though the holiday is over, you can still celebrate with two more Spin It Up songs, which are now live and ready for your tender love and spinning.

In this corner, wearing the green tunic, hailing from the land of Hyrule, we have Hyrulian OC Remix, brought to us by the well-known OC-er djpretzel. This snazzy song sports the lost art of the flute solo along with a driving bassline and drums to give the classic Zelda theme an all-new makeover. MixMasterLar supplies the spinfile for the tune, which ranks in at the beginner-friendly difficulty level of 1, so regardless of your Spin skill, be sure to give this enjoyable song and spinfile a shot. His partner, wearing the black trunks with the black trim, we have the bangin’ tune Black Hole, a Spin It Up exclusive song thanks to /DJS\. Jugglinguy provides yet another mind-bending 6-rated file for the Spin It Up pros so be sure to focus or else the challenging Black Hole will swallow your mouse whole.

As Spin It Up picks up some more steam, don’t forget we have a full-featured real-time multiplayer mode for you to try out these new songs with three other players and we’re taking your suggestions and seeking spinfile authors in the Spin It Up forum section. Have fun with the new tunes and look forward to more being implemented in the game this Saturday.

Double the Spin, Double the Fun

Paradise Decay

To kick off the month, Spin It Up fans should be pleased to know, two new files have been added to the game and levels will once again be added to the game on a regular basis.

Starting today, both {Big Bad Scary Fish-Man} and Bomb the Base are available for play in Spin It Up. If the brackets weren’t enough to clue you in {Big Bad Scary Fish-Man} comes at you courtesy of fan-favorite artist cornandbeans. The dizzying file was designed for us by jugglinguy and can be found in the level 6 difficulties. If a level 6 is too spinny for you, mellow down the difficulty just a little bit with Bomb the Base by Paradise Decay feat. Nina Goddess of Dance. The level 2 file was created by myself in order to test the waters of adding levels to Spin It Up and features mostly straight forward beats with only a few semi-tricky spins. With both files being newly added, you can easily find both songs by going to their respective difficulty sections and clicking the up arrow once.

I have a good handful of spinfiles in waiting to be entered into the game, so with patience, we’ll be catching up on the Spin It Up backlog in no time flat with additions coming at you as soon as early next week. To talk about Spin It Up and find out how to contribute to the game levels, visit the Spin It Up section of our forums. Right now, I am considering Saturdays to be the day of the week I regularly add spinfiles to the game, but that is still in consideration – but know that the game will be receiving the proper update treatment and you’ll be hearing the name Spin It Up a lot more down the road.
