Phishing/Social Engineering
Ok I would like to take some time to help people prevent their gaming account or any other sensitive information form being stolen. For example, people claim on websites to get you things for you for your Xbox 360 such as Gamerscore, Microsoft Points, or other accounts. First step don't trust these sites, ESPECIALLY if they want you to log in with your account information with a link from their site that supposedly links to xbox.com. Only log into Xbox from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/ if you live in the US hence "en-US." Or what ever it says for you say you live in japan: http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/ and so on...
don't ever use sites that you get a link to things like xbox.tk or anything with an xbox and freewebs in the address bar. You have to pay close attention to these things when you log into places. This goes for any website you need to provide login information to. If you realize that when you log in and don't get anywhere an then you try to sign into xbox or anything else and you can't, Congratulations you have just been phished! If you don't know what phishing is then read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing Here is what an example phishing site looks like: Another way of getting information from you is social engineering. If you don't know what that is read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_...uter_security) It takes more work than phishing and you can get a lot more information this way. If you have anyone on any online gaming place saying that they can do the same things mentioned above but they need your information, DON'T DO IT! Any sensitive information that you feel comfortable giving away should only be with a trusted friend or family member. All I am saying is be careful and don't do dumb things. If something sounds too good to be true it usually is. Not everything in life is free(Rewards1). So just spend the money to get things you need for anything. Just be careful! PS. It has happened to me and I care about other people's security. Just a REMINDER to all people. Regards, Dan Last edited by AeonShadow; 08-20-2008 at 03:02 PM.. |

Re: Phishing/Social Engineering
If you fall for those you probably don't deserve your account anyway and should kill yourself.

Re: Phishing/Social Engineering
Simple common sense; if it asks for your password, it's a scam.

PS. I kinda intended this to be a sticky to all gamers who don't feel like paying money. But in a sense it probably wont(not with that attitude) be a sticky. |
