So my day started off very .... interesting.
My phone was charging like usual, I was sleeping. It chimes because I got a text. Before I can read the text, my phone starts ringing. I look to see who it is, because people know not to call me before 2 (this is noon) and it's a private caller. I decide to answer. Me: "Hello?" Operator: "Hello, this is the Washington County Sheriff's department, and we're calling because your phone contacted 911. Is there an emergency?" Me: "No, I've been sleeping..." Operator: "Okay, well you might have bumped the phone or something, so please be more careful with that." Me: "Okay ... bye..." That was weird. I don't know how it happened but whatever. No mroe than 5 minutes later, rings again. Private caller. Me: "Hello?" Operator: "Hello, this is the Washington County Sheriff's department, and we're calling because your phone contacted 911. Is there an emergency?" Me: "No, I haven't touched my phone." Operator: "Okay, well just checking please be careful." Me: "Okay thanks, bye." So I go downstairs to tell my mom that apparently I've called 911 twice in 5 minutes. My "dialed" list shows nothing since yesterday. Odd. I unplugged my phone and texted it, nothing happened. Randomly, phone rings again, same situation, same convo. Plug phone in, text it, and 911 calls me again. Me: "Hello?" Operator: "Hello, this is the Washington County Sheriff's department, and we're calling because your phone contacted 911. Is there an emergency?" Me: "No, I'm terribly sorry, but my phone is messed up, and keeps calling 911 while it's charging and gets a text." Operator: (frustrated) "Well maybe you should turn off your phone while it's charging so this doesn't happen again." Me: "It's not my fault, I'm sorry, I'm going to get it fixed now." Operator: "Okay, bye now." I went to the store, and told them about this. Me: "I have a serious problem with my phone." Guy: "What's that?" Me: "When my phone is charging and receives a text I dial 911." Guy: "Oh wow. That is a serious problem." He called tech support, who had also never heard of this problem, but power cycling the phone by taking out the battery fixed the problem ... I hope. tl;dr : My phone dialed 911 4 times in 20 minutes because it was charging and got texts.

Great for everyone that wasn't me
Even the guy in the store started laughing and said "I'm sorry for laughing, but this is just hilarious. Not for you I mean, but on the outside."

It is possible that the phone calls were prank calls by someone calling on a restricted number... but still, that must be the weirdest cell phone glitch I've ever heard of.

At least you didn't have to change your number because some collections agency threatened you with legal penalties if you didn't take action in so long...
I only owned the phone and number for a little over a week. But yeah... Sounds like a definite technical issue to me... But to be honest with you... I laughed

Well, get U.S. Cellular, get the cheapest phone you can, and good luck. (I have the Motorola 323i)

It's fixed as far as I know. It didn't happen when the guy we were on the phone with texted me, but I'm not going to risk it
![]() Although, since my mom had to call customer service to ask them what to do, she signed me up for unlimited texting More chances to dial 911 YAY!
