They are ok for a start but you really need to flesh them out more.

Unfortunately drawing isn't my forte so I can't really offer any books or websites that could help you out.

Though give it some time and I'm sure some people will post giving you advice or sites.

Keep drawing though, practice always helps.

Taken from Megatokyo... (I frequent the art forums a lot. GREAT artists there. I mean REALLY great.)

Really helpful sites, but when it comes down to it; its what helps you progress. Just reading the words arent enough sometimes.

Major tip. Dont do anime drawing. It screws up your idea of anatomy when, at start; you hardly any clue about it anyway.

Anime is about distorting anatomy, so if you make a habit out of drawing distorted distorted anatomy.. it gets hard to break..

What you are doing is the smartest thing but dont let full body figures frighten you. It did me.

I sucked at doing faces and now Im pretty good at it, but when you draw a great face on a horrid body; it doesnt come out too well.

Awesome tip... it helps me. Try feeling out your own face and body.. That sounds quite homosexual, but it helps. Learning something by yourself instead of having others teach you will is 10x better.

The most helpful thing when it comes to art is comparing one part or feature of the body to another.

Example:
-Your body is 7x the length of your head.
-The space between each eye is generally equivalent to the length of your eye.

Etc...

With shading.. Use three extremes. Dark, lighter, and even more light. In the end, unless the lighting is extreme (IE; A lamp shining on your face in a pitch black room.); the lightest tone in outdoor settings should be a little bit darker than the paper you are drawing on... You are starting off well with shading, but its important to bring the facial features of someones face out with shading, instead of hard lines; it looks more organic and realistic that way.

I should stop or I would go on a 123481024081 hour lecture.
