With the quarter finals over and the cup to be awarded soon I wanted to know who you all think will win it all. Explain why you think they will win.

Personally I think Detroit will win because they have so much depth. Pittsburgh has Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Gonchar and Sykora (you could argue that there is more). Detroit has Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Lindstrom, Rafalski and the list keeps going.

Also Detroit has a lot more playoff experience than the other teams (Chelios alone has 250 playoff games played). While I have trouble naming a person who has won a cup playing in Pittsburgh.

Hasek and Osgood together are a deadly combonation in net and the only goalie that can still oppose them is Marty Turco.

Detroit can also play a phisical game thanks to the likes of Darren McCarty, Thomas Holmstrom, Kris Draper, Dallas Drake, Johan Franzen.

Also Detroit has excellent leadership on their bench. Lindstrom is a fantastic player who leads by example. He is also solid on the defensive end well on his way to his fifth Norris Trophy. The other captains are still excellent, but I think Lindstrom is the best defenseman in the NHL. Crosby (the captain of Pittsburgh) is an excellent player, but he still lacks playoff experience. He wants to be there but I question if he will be willing to sacrifice enough in the end.

Detroit

I don't watch hockey enough to explain why. Their my favorite team, always have been, they've been to the finals many times and the conference finals a lot of times.

I'm a TB Lightning fan but they didn't make it so I'm rooting for the Penguins.

Flyers. Although I'm just a wee bit biased. Not to mention, Philly teams never actually win. But we will continue to support them.

I would also like to see the Flyers to do well, just because a kid in my homeroom is a Penguins nut.

The Pens are gonna win. They have a good young team full of energy backed-up with a solid goalie. Philly eliminated Montreal, so I hate them. Detroit's going to win against Dallas, but won't get the Cup. (in my opinion of course)

While having young guys does help, the veterans are the ones used to the playoffs. The main reason I think Pittsburgh will not win the cup is because they don't have enough experience. They key to victory is the right mix of veterans and young guns. (IMO of course)

Yea, I dislike Montreal too, but that is for the same reason that I hate Toronto; the over-extensive Canadian media coverage.

That and the fact that it's my dad's team.

Well, as mentioned in my last post they are my dad's favourite team. That said even he wasn't holding his breath. Before the Canadians ALWAYS got the best French-Canadian player. Just think of the fantastic guys that would be Habs if they still got that. Martin Brodeur, Mario Lemieux, Jose Theodore, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis just to name a few.

Also remember that the last time the Habs won was 1993.

All those past Cups are rings on the Mug and a banner. That was then, this is now. And now, they're out. Lotta good all those Cups did for them now eh?

For Habs fans, 24 isn't enough. We always want more. The only reason why Montreal isn't winning anymore is because of Mario Tremblay.

I THINK the Penguins will take it. Crosby and Malkin are possibly the best combo in the league. I WANT the Flyers to take it, just because I've always liked them.

I would love to see a Penguin/Red Wing match-up though, just to see how well the youth can match the veteran power that the Red Wings have. Red Wings are probably better in every category, the exclamation point one being, as you pointed out, defense and the goalies. But it's gonna be a fun Stanley this year, I'm actually looking forward to it, no matter who it is in the end.

Is that because you are Ontarian? Anyway, your claims are kinda true, even though I would have liked to see a Cup here for once. Montreal have been lucky to get that far. And even if they had won against the Flyers, they would have been crushed to death by the Penguins.
