Mal: I'm with Gano on Smokin' Aces. I thought it was great.
Kekeb: having absolutely LOVED the first two Rush Hours, I must say that #3 was a huge disappointment, and was absurdly cliche even for a black guy x asian guy comedy. I don't think The Number 23 should have been on the worst list, though. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Re: 2007's Best and Worst Movies of the Year
Eh, I thought SA was exploitative trash - it was wanna be pulp with spiderwebbing characters that never added up above the sum of its parts. I like Ryan Reynolds, I like Ray Liotta - I even like Ben Affleck - but it was too over the top to take itself seriously... Which is something the movie did. It wasn't ham fisted, self aware, or tongue in cheek. It was dead pan, which killed it for me. It tried to exist in a realm of feasible realism, but never tried to lift itself to the absurd extreme that it actually existed in. If Buddy had gone wild hog and started killing people with playing cards, then I would have liked it - it would have fit with the feeling that they were trying to establish. But by having such diverse, unbelievable characters running around in a setting that was supposed to be 'realistic'... It was killer. Not to mention the plot twists that showed up near the end - for a movie to have plot twists, there does have to be a plot to wrap around. I thought the end was a poor way of trying to add a lesson to the movie about respect.
Anyways, I didn't really care for it. But it wouldn't have put it at the bottom of my list.

Umm, Norbit was hilarious, The Number 23 was one of Jim Carey's best roles since Ace Ventura, and Hannibal Rising was just all around good.

Re: 2007's Best and Worst Movies of the Year
I'd disagree with a lot of them, but the two biggest would have to be Hannibal Rising (should be higher) and 300 (also should be higher). Twenty five percent of the top 50 I haven't even heard of.

I haven't seen Juno so I can't judge, but is it really best picture material? It's been nominated : O
