Index is when you use your index and middle fingers of both your hands to hit the arrow keys.

Index is using your index fingers, simple as that.

I find index useful for jumps- especially songs like Love Cheat! and Kyuin

I play 4-fingered, mostly, index for some songs (and I switch in the middle for some songs), and one hand/3-fingered for ridiculously awesome PA for standard- songs.

though i realize its legit, remapping your keys seems like trickery to me, like not how the game was meant to be played.

I play index, spread, etc. It's helpful to know how to play more than one style.

I play 3 finger, which is almost index

It's basically the same thing but it gets rid of crossovers.
