yea freeram just pretty much gives you more vroom for stepmaniar.
nvhardpage on the other hand lets you set insane options for graphics and stuff to make games (in this case sm) run smoother. also you can overclock which makes your computer run settings higher than original. long term it might cause some damage (cuz higher voltage, power usage etc.) but as long as its used in moderation it should be ok.
