Ive Created a new theme NeonMANIA ver2.0

ive made a new theme. ive had a tough time recently but i got it working. here is a screen shot (in game) music wheel. you will see the theme in www.stepmania.com pretty soon (about 2 to 4 weeks) if you have questions or comments please DO NOT HESITATE to 1. post or 2. PM me or 3. Post in my wall in my profile.

Note to all. i created the bg.bmp with paint and stepmania reads the file extension as a .png so before i could upload the image i had to change the extension to a .bmp

for proof i will put in a little number in the theme (a number between 1 and 1,000,000)

Unfortunately no because im not sure how to make it work in 4.0 plus I have made two many things made that i don't want to lose.

I will start to post notes for the next 12 days in this thread Just to give you a little insight on whats going on with the theme.

DAY 1 - well all seems to be going well but im trying to put in a video background (I already know how to do this) but since the background is an .png it wont move. I will have to create the same EXACT images in all the exact same places as the one before and then get rid of the purple lightning and put them in sequence but at the same time only have the purple lightning move little by little and then use WNDOWS MOVIE MAKER and import ALL the pictures and then loop it and convert it to an .avi. I am still trying to decide what to do Oh what to do.... The NeonMANIA theme is goind well and even though SOME not all of the graphics are really messed up overall it is graphicly good. All i have to do is just clean all the graphics and add the audio (For the audio i already have the DDR SuperNOVA 2 _Common menu music loop.ogg and the wheel changing sounds. im going to more than likely change the sounds to "TRIM by KOBO" and electrify the sounds of EVERYTHING. (the electrifing sounds this is bieng considered but it more than likely will NOT happen. As days pass by i have less and less left to finish so it might only take 4 days tops and then for the remainder of the deadline i announced I will be testing it and I will also be playing it just for the fun of it.
also the font for FASCINATION was a consideration but making the font was to much of a hassle so the font was reverted. also the difficulty radar looks a LOT better because the labeler is more transparent and is neon so i have made two corrections after consideration so the FASCINATION font is not going to happen. btw i also only have 1 Simfile in my stepmania while im developing it for ceartain reasons (No it wont and can't delete files but because i am fixing and modifieng my theme it NEVER hurt to be careful)

looks good! my only constructive crticism is that generally when i see neon lights they kind of look bubbly. all your lines are very thin, and while you have the colours right i personally think the lines could be a bit thicker and more rounded

other than that its loking great, keep it up!

Ya, all lines definitely need to be bigger, more rounded and slightly feathered around to give it that real neon look

I Have some bad news. The NeonMANIA thickness thing probably will be on ver 3 (The Next One) because i need to know how to Give it that Neon Look only using Paint. can someone teach me on making it look Neon only using paint and it must only take about 1 min and 30 seconads to do it to.

for just 12 days untill NeonMANIA ver 2.0 comes out you will be able to download the original really graphicly poor version of neonmania. i HAVE JUST POSTED THE LINK. please keep in mind that i come back to this thread every 30 min so questions WILL be answered imediately.

This is the first version developed but Number 2 is a HUGE difference so it is A LOT better graphicly and it is smoother.

Well there's your problem. The thing about making a theme is that it's entirely graphical, so if you're not good at making graphics on a computer (or you don't have people helping) you probably shouldn't be doing one in the first place. Quick search of the internets shows that you could easily get a better program than Paint: http://www.getpaint.net/

Now I've never used that, but it looks like a somewhat less featureful Photoshop, but you probably wouldn't use half the features of PS anyway, so it'll be fun. As for the neon glow that people are talking about, I think they mean something like this:



That took me like half a minute to make because I know my way around Photoshop. It's a fairly simple addition that makes a huge impact. Instead of just having squiggly lines you have lines that appear to be giving off light.

yup for me i see lasers not neon lights... photoshop or even gimp (free version of photoshop) would really make it easy to get that neon look!

EDIT: ok here is what i was able to do in this paint.net program this entire process from downloading to installing to learning to doing took me about an hour. now trust me when i say i suck at anything that has to do with graphics. but even a monkey can make art with the right tools.

here is what i did quickly just to show you an idea... i bascially used your pre-existing lines and gave them a glow and rounded some of the edges. to me it doesn't look perfect but it doesn't look like a laser beam either
