Alright. Real criticism?

Number one thing that I noticed is that whetever drums you're happening to be using sound like they're presets from FLS. You need to get your hands on some other sample packs. Open open to a larger variety of drum samples. As well as doing further compression and master on the drums themselves so they all have their own unique sound to them.

As well I felt like the song didn't go anywhere. No real buildup of any sort. No major 'omg it just dropped' type of anything. Song just didn't seam to grab me. The intro as well just kind of sounds drawn out with the persistent use of bringing in a new piece of the drum kit every couple bars.

There is also a very huge emphasis on the piano. The piano playing is nice for sure. Good melody and harmony. And the synth in the background just as filler was nice too. I just wish that for a 'Techno' song as you there classify it, would have more emphasis on a broader range of synths, or at least some type of effect overlayed with the piano, even an emphasized synth with the piano going in the background. But hey. It's your song.

The breakdown in the middle where only the piano was playing for about 30 seconds just really killed the song. No drum sequence. Nothing. Just piano. And then when it DID eventually drop was just extremely repetitive and needs the melody to get mixed up a bit. As well, you throw in the filter flanging effect into your track twice or so, but they are done too late... For example, an effect like that should be done right when you're wanting the track to drop and pick back up again, not at the end of the song, y'know?

Anyways... I could go on for a while more, but I figure this is enough real criticism for you to take in at once...

But keep up the practice! Your stuff isn't sounding bad at all! I listened to some of your other tracks too, and I'll be looking forward to your further releases! Just something I notice similar with all your tracks is the use of your drums sounding like presets... Definately open your eyes up to some numerous variety of sample packs, for example, Breakbeat Paradise Packs being some of my favorites

Edit: HAHAHAHA I was listening to several more of your tracks after writing this review and I thought it funny that you did a 'techno remix' to Comptine, cuz I'm actually workin' on a remix myself of Comptine! My g/f can play it perfectly on the piano and that's how it inspired me to start a remix project to that composition haha Nice :P

And hey... If you ever need any help with D'nB Production, Gorlock and I are your main-men! You can ask anything in this forum and we'll help you out until you're satisified with the answer! I'm assuming you're using FLS, so what other program you use? It would help us, to help you, if we know what you use... I'd personally suggest using Acid 6 and VSTi Absynth 4 for D'nB production though, since D'nB is so prodominent on the use of drums, Acid allows you to easily sequence drums however the frick you want, unlike FLS that hinders you... And then you may be thinking, what about the synths and effects? Acid as well allows for easy piano roll editor in 6, and as well running through Absynth, you can just leave good 'ol FLS behind As far as being able to gras the concept of D'nB, you just gotta listen to it all the time... Listen to your favorite industry standard D'nB artists, and have major influences for you to be able to go somewhere with your music, y'know?

omg that was so much stuff at once. thanks for taking so much time to review. i have acid pro 3 but im working on trying to get 6.0. as for me using piano its mainly just because i write piano songs first, then make them into techno, and what i usually do is just put it all out on fl keys then add beats and different synths and work with volume and all that. but for my next piece i will definitely take everything you said into consideration. i do actually have a lot of other samples i just dont use them much. i was thinking of chopping up the original amen break and making a cool beat with that.

oh and my techno remix of comptine might get into ffr. we will find out in the next couple of days.

Please good God No. It was done all too much in the 90's. And it's done in all of today's 'hip car commercials'. Be original. Oh lord. Gorlock. Please. Ellaborate. *Sigh*

P.S. Yeah you definately need to get your hands on Acid 6 and get Absynth 4 for your primary VSTi through Acid. You'll wish you never touched FLS. And best of luck with getting Comptine in FFR

first of all. i would not recommend using the amen break. it's so overused. the only way i would use it, if i was you, would be a background to layer your own single shot drum samples over. it actually sounds better that way anyways.

as for your track. i noticed that your piano is extremely overpowering in Tres Jolie... that was disappointing. the piano can still be the main part of the song without pushing 0db from intro to outro. just bring it down a few notches. other than that i agree with zajac on his analysis. definitely download more samples. it will take your production to a whole new level. i have over 15 gigabytes of extra samples, and i'm always getting more. i still feel like i don't have enough.

also definitely practice your mastering. compression is a key to mastering your tracks, so is equalising. they will help blend everything together and just give it a more smooth sound in general. right now your tracks are a bit on the harsh side. it's much better to blend everything at a soft level than to blare everything and try to mash it all down (trust me i know this from experience).

your music isn't bad by any means, and i'm looking forward to hearing your further productions. good luck TK.
