Default monogamy and polygamy

I guess the topic is pretty much wide open as it is. Do you believe in polygamy or monogamy or both depending on situation, etc. Have your views on this changed over time? What about when raising kids-is it a good idea to have a few people on the side and raise children? Do you think it's not alright only because that's the way society functions right now, but think that it can work?
I suspect I'm asking a crowd a little young and inexperienced, but young people seem to be more open-minded than older ones, or at least they have more spare time and to ponder and question their own opinions.

Whatever works.

As long as everyone is happy in the situation, polygamy is fine with me. As soon as someone feels uncomfortable, it's time for it to stop.

I think society can accomodate polygamous relationships/marriages, if it would just try. People instantly want to shun polygamy and remove it from sight in the west. I find that closed-minded.

Anyway, whoever wants to should be able to, as long as everyone agrees. This means that I'm strongly against cheating, or polygamy that is not fully discosed. Relationships have the potential of hurting very badly, especialy if you find out that your partner was unfaithful when you were expecting them to be so.

Yeah i think we covered polygamy in another topic and the general consensus was that as long as both everyone has no problems with it then it would be ok.
Although as a Mormon i am opposed to it because the practice brings the idea of adultery as being ok.

Polygamy was lived secretly in the LDS church from about 1831 to 1852. The first mormon prophet had 20-30 wives and was murdered for practicing plural marriage privately while denying it publicly.

First of all where did that quote come from cause Joseph Smith didnt have 20-30 wives.
Second, from what i know polygamy was a practice that the mormon church went through in times of crisis. When war was being fought and the men would go to help fight the women were left at home with the children. As you can imagine, it would be rather difficult for a woman with children back then to endure such persecution and being driven out of many states without a husband. From what i know it was more of the type of thing where a church leader would ask a man to marry a widow or the wife of someone not expected to return as a way of supporting her, both financially and emotionally. If this is not the case then i am more than sure it was a practice to help increase the number of members because for a while the church was threatened of dissolving due to lack of numbers (because of persecution and of death from traveling) and near bankruptsey.
And no, i do not believe that the "60 years" thing is accurate.
