how do i make a simfile?

i want to be able to take my favorite song and and make a game on it? how do i do that and what programs do i use

Yes, it's called STEPMANIA

There a feature called Record in Selection (Ctrl+R in the editor). It sounds good on paper, but you need godly timing to make a good simfile using that. I would highly recommend NOT using that.

i tried ctrl r but nothing happend expcet it just played the file?

Ctrl+R should play the file with a black bg, and you can add the arrows while it's playing with the 1-4 keys. But seriously, don't use Ctrl+R unless you're just trying to find the beat.

Just play the song on your normal setup and it should work.
