Ok maybe not. But I do need some help and it is computer related.
![]() So basically, 400$ for everything except a monitor (keyboard, mouse, and totally useless 56k modem included), and I have an extra monitor sitting around somewhere. It's all the cheapest **** you can get from them (even 512 mb memory; would probably have to update that before long... would it be worth it to just order this with more RAM to begin with?), along with a USB wireless receiver. Is it worth it? Could I get a better deal on a new system anywhere else? Would it be worth it to pay 160$ more and get a fancy pants flat monitor (and it's only one inch less than the computer I'm used to)? Needless to say, I'm not too savvy with pricings of things such as this. I just want a desktop for my room and I want to get away from this endeavor without paying more money than I have to. I saw some eMachines on another website for a bit less, but I seem to recall hearing that eMachines are piles of **** (then again, people talk **** about dell too and I know that they're a good computer for the money). But yeah, I would appreciate some input on this as soon as possible so I can be sure to get this order in before this 50$ off thing gets taken away if I choose to get this. ps I have a legit XP install disc from class and I would definitely be installing XP on it. pps what's with everyone switching over to Vista as though it's the standard as soon as it comes out? ****ing stupid... they don't even offer XP as a choice anymore.

I use the smaller version of that, the C521. It does what I want it to: mIRC, AIM, and a halflife or Halflife 2 game open at once. Still, get more RAM.

You could save yourself some extra cash too by buying a wireless adapter on eBay. They run around $8 (add an extra 6-10 for shipping) for PCI, or around $14 for a USB adapter. Make sure you're also only getting 512 MB stick of ram and not 2x256 MB sticks, because having two will make upgrading more expensive.
Buying a 512 stick of RAM should only run you around $35-55 on www.newegg.com, but make sure the RAM you buy matches the current RAM's clockspeed (www.crucial.com will set you up by your system). And if you've got the keyboard, mouse and monitor lying around, that looks like it's quite a deal. |

oh ps my dad just told me we have enough **** lying around the house that I could actually put together a full comptuer which means this is actually quite unnecessary until I feel like getting something which is actually decent in other words, you can go ahead and lock if you want

Just looked up parts for a comparable spec'd PC from Newegg: $236.43, minus the OS since you said you already have a disc for XP. Add a few beers for a pal to help set it up. They also have wireless cards for like $18.
All stuff accounted for: CPU, Motherboard, HDD, RAM, PSU, Case, Keyboard, Mouse. Total cost: $254.43 or so, before shipping and tax. |

Meh. I knew there was a popular site I was forgetting about when it came to ordering computers online. I'll definitely look into that when I get a real computer of my own, but tomorrow, I am definitely setting up the random parts computer in my room.

Even if I would have to build it myself from all of the parts, that's not a big deal. Hell, I'll be doing almost the same thing tomorrow trying to put together all of the components laying around the house. I think we might even have some extra ram sticks that simply couldn't fit in the main computer, because we got a different motherboard with less slots.
