![]() There has been a lot of controversy as to which band has better guitarists and guitar solos. I personally think that Herman Li and Sam from Dragonforce have some amazing skills although i do think that some of the Children of Bodom solos are slightly better. I guess im torn =\, but i wanna know what others think.

![]() i KNOW that DragonForce have better solos cuz i have both the bands and there are some solos on DragonForce that are almost longer that some of CoB's songs all together, and their damn good solos. Every song DF has is better than anyone else, i am a HUGE DF fan. So there is my opinion.

![]() Here's the thing: Metal isn't and shouldn't ever be just about superficial things like "wow, cool solos!" Or "wow, look how fast they go!"
Want me to answer your question? It doesn't matter. Alexi Laiho and the guys from Dragonforce are both proficient at what they do. The fact that you can't tell who's better already says that they all must be close enough. When you reach a certain point, it's completely unimportant. "Oh, Alexi can play four-hundred and eight notes per minute." "Oh, well, Herman can play four-hundred and eight notes per minute!" It doesn't matter. It carries less weight than homeopathy at a smart person's convention.

![]() Ok well if you are going to get into techincalities then i guess what i was asking is which of the two bands had better composed solos and accompanyments.

![]() I agree... to a cetain extent anyway. In a way it seems like CoB's guitar compositions are a lot more cleanly executed as opposed to Dragonforce's sometimes seeminly slurred rush solos. It also appears that CoB put a lot more thought and differences in their riffs and such. More often i am finding that Dragonforce's guitars do somewhat of the same sort of riffs a lot of the time in the song with changes in rythm only made extremely apparent in the solos. However, i do see that Dragonforce's Herman Li and Sam may have a little bit more experience in their guitar abilities making them able to play some more difficult rythms.

![]() I would say DragonForce, personally. Alexi is rather talented (Especially when it comes to sweeps, individual finger picking and the like and Follow The Reaper is an awesome piece.) but, Herman Li has better technique, and over all his shapes for his arpeggios sound much nicer. Bodom has really died down over the last few albums, their best work is their earlier work (Especially before "Are You Dead Yet?"). DragonForce has extended solos that as a whole are composed much better especially with harmonics which although is there, lacks with Bodom because Alexi generally steals the solos. DragonForce may sound similar at times but, as a whole, I believe they are structured much better. I say all this yet I don't play guitar, I play drums, I simply know of it sounds and how it works and that's my commentary.
Also, as a whole it's best to check out each song if you haven't already. Inhuman Rampage is just a solid push towards faster technique, their older stuff might be considered better written so check that out if you haven't (Notably, Sonic Firestorm and Through The Valley...Something something.) Although to be quite honest, I feel Necrophagist or Wintersun beat both in terms of "Sound" for solos. Technique, maybe not, but, I don't know them individually to give a good answer to that. Unless we're speaking of Necrophagist who has very impressive technique on all their instruments.

![]() I have fortunately listened to every song from both Dragonforce and CoB which is what probably leads me to my indecision. While its true that Inhuman Rampage was a push for new things, I still would like to think that they both have their benefits and downfalls that put them somewhat in the same ballpark. I really like Dragonforce dont get me wrong, but i just seem to think that CoB sounds smoother with in its guitar aspects and transitions. Then again i am listening to Bodom right now and so my opinion might change slightly once i listen to Dragonforce again.

As for the post-hijack question: Rhapsody by a mile. Though I admit I have a certain soft spot for them.

![]() on second thought, just for sheer musical composition, i think Opeth has both of them beat.
