1) In the level-rank page, could you add the genre? A simple (d) for dance, (h) for hip-hop, etc., would do the trick.
2) Would it be possible to have a score tracker in the top left that indicates how many goods/averages/boos/misses you have gotten so far? It'd be helpful to those of us (AKA most of us) who screenshrink and cannot tell where we lose our AAA. Even a little red light that goes out when we lose our AAA would be helpful. 3) Resync the easy, old songs. While I agree, AAAing songs that have the syncing issues of the old gap converter is a skill that should stay a part of FFR, I think that the easy songs which newcomers are more likely to play need to be synced. There'd be more active users with newbies actually getting what the arrows go to; as it is, the easier songs are screwed up and frustrating to the newer players. I still think that songs like SSSG, TFB, 136.6, and all of the other slightly higher difficulty songs with syncing issues should stay with syncing issues, but I think the very easy songs should be resynced.

solid suggestions... perhaps i can help to explain why they may or may not be implimented...
1. might be easy to do, might not be. i don't know exactly how the php is set up, but i suspect that it is reading straight from the database. so in order to display the genre, the data base would have to be changed to show the genre (or at least have another column added...). don't know how viable it is to do such a massive edit to the db. also, it isn't usually THAT big of a problem to remember which songs are in which genre, so it likely won't be that high of a priority to change, if ever. 2. i'd love to have this. i've actually thought to myself how awesome it would be to have this. although i suspect the hardcoding of the game would have to be edited to accomplish this, which is nay-impossible for 2nd style. although perhaps it is not too late for 3rd style. again, i'd LOVE to have this... then again, with 3rd style having speed mods, it likely won't matter. speed mods kinda negate the need for screenshrinking. 3. won't happen. Synth, and FFR as a whole, refuses to mess with a file once it is added to the game. Why? because it is unfair to those who achieved their scores on the original file. so for that reason alone, the old off-sync files won't ever be changed. not to mention nostalgia. what likely will happen is that 3rd style will fix the purchase sections limitation on 1 page of songs, so that we can add more purchased songs. with the ability for more purchased songs, we can add more v2's. so we definately could have new on-sync versions of the older off-sync songs, but don't ever expect the classics to be modified.

And also, I read Chardish saying in the 3rd Style thread that there won't be offbeat files in 3rd Style. And that no songs would be removed from the current R1 for 3rd Style. Decisions might have changed since then, but that's what I read.

i think that in each category (dance, purchased,secret, etc.) you should rank the songs from easiest to hardest. that way, its always easy to find a song thats just the right level for you. also, when youre showing the difficulty (i.e 6,11,3) you could use numbers instead of those little bar things. because on a standard computer screen its difficult to make out how many bars there are. and you have to count tem to see. if it was done with numbers than everyone would know what level it was at a quick glance instead of having to squint and count and all that.
i think thats the only suggestions i have for now. thanks |

the difficulty is given in words....
2 = for beginners 3 = very easy 4 = easy 5 = standard 6 = tricky 7 = difficult 8 = very difficult 9 = challenging 10 = very challenging 11 = for masters only 12 = for gurus only 13 = blank (silence and fotbb)

4) Get rid of the ready thing, or have it go away in a non scrolling with the arrows way. It sometimes makes it hard to PA the first note (see MLR), which is the hardest note to PA anyways. EDIT 5) Don't say "show them who's daddy" in the challenge thing... gives 1337 h4xxx0r5 who can totally pwn u up in mario bad ideas...

Since this thread is for small suggestions, I have one I'd like to add. In the level rank page, could you right justify the level and score columns (instead of left justifying them)? This would make all of the numbers align on the ones digit, and I think it's a bit easier to read columns of numbers that way. Thanks.

Example, silence Is supposed to be a 13, a higher rank than gurus. Gradeus Is a guru, and It Is a much harder song to combo than silence. So my question Is How exactly are the songs rated? Who rates there difficulty? Thanks -Theo

If I'm not mistaken, the difficulty of the song/stepfile is judged by the person who created and/or submitted it. That's why there are inconsistencies -- what's hard to one person may be easy to another. There's a thread in the main R1 discussion forum that puts all the songs on one, consistent difficulty scale. If you want to know how difficult the songs really are, use that scale. That's what I do. Putting this info in the game is a good idea, I'm just not sure they're going to go back into the code and change all the games' difficulties.

3rd Style should (will probably) have a accurate difficulty system. All the songs in R1 are going to 3rd Style, so waiting until 3rd Style may be an alternative.

And: 6) Change the color of the combo number. White would be preferable, but any color would do. On all blue songs the combo display can blend in very easily when there's a 2222222222222222222222222 pattern or something like that.
