Default Hey, anyone know if this is legit?

Hi,

My name is Sharon H----, and I am the editor of Antithesis Common Literary Magazine. I’m contacting you because we are currently accepting writing and art submissions for our next issue (due to be published on March 15th). I’ll try to give you as much information as I can here in this email, lest you think this is a form letter that I’m sending to everyone on the planet… it isn’t, and I’m not.

One of the reasons I’m contacting you is because I have been a casual reader of sites like Fiction Press for a while now, and after reading some of your works, I really like your style and would love to feature some of your writings in our magazine. In particular I enjoyed “Reading Between the Lines”, “The Best Intentions”, “Hope”, “The End”, and “Eight Minutes”, but of course we’d be open to reading and reviewing anything that you’ve written. We are looking for all forms of writing (non-fiction, fiction, poetry, commentary, essays, etc.) as well as art (photography, painting, sketches, etc.).

To give you an idea of what we have featured in the past, you can check out our past issues here: http://members.aol.com/antithesiscommon

Basically, Antithesis Common is open to all styles of writing and art, but we hope to narrow the focus of our writers and artists towards diversity and interesting, unique topics and viewpoints.

Even if you’re not interested, I’m hoping that you can pass this message along to other writers (and artists) and help make our next issue a success. It's worth noting that, whether or not we decide to publish them/you, everybody will receive personal feedback about their works from at least one of our three editors, so if nothing else it's a good opportunity to test out some of their/your works.

Submissions can be sent to a---------, or you can visit our website for more information: http://members.aol.com/antithesiscommon

If you wish to submit works other than what I have already seen posted at Fiction Press, please forward them to me using our email address. However, I am particularly interested “Hope”, “Reading Between the Lines”, “The End”, “The Best Intentions”, and “Eight Minutes”, and I’m hoping that you will give me permission to consider them for publication in our Spring 2006 issue. If that’s okay then all I need is a quick email back from you with a “yes, that’s fine” and the name you would like us to use (either a real name or a pen name, but not a screen name or User ID please). When we get closer to March we will send you an email requesting a short biography, as well as a full review of everything you’ve submitted.

Of course, you can also feel free to email me with any questions or comments you may have and I’ll get back to you ASAP.

Thanks so much in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,

--Sharon

Is this legit? Anyone worked with these people before? I'd like to know before I give them the go ahead with my stories.

it seems like a pretty good e-zine. I am just not sure how many people read it, I checked out the site and the work there was all good quality

"Unless otherwise noted, Antithesis Common Literary Magazine retains one-time publishing and anthology rights."
That should still mean Mal can post it on FFR, though...

I don't know if you can apply this rule to this problem, but anytime I want to make sure a charity foundation on the phone or something is legit I ask them to send me some literature in the mail.

Or you tell them "my husband/wife is a police officer, let me ask with him/her". Works every time.
