RE: Jarhead
I'm not a fan of war movies, but seeing as my name is "Jared" and a beloved nickname given to me by many friends is "Jar Head", I will probably see this movie sometime soon.

RE: Re: RE: Jarhead
reviewers were pretty harsh on it, but it seems like they may have had artificially inflated expectations for it.

Just watched it... decent movie. If you like war movies, or military exploits, its worth seeing. If the military pisses you off, or war movies... don't see it.
Pretty simple. Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now are better movies, but its not terrible. Different war, different things happened, different expectations out of the movie.

A war movie without any war. I liked it and thought it was
funnier than it should have been.

RE: Re: RE: Jarhead
ok several things to say...
Tass, don't compare to full metal jacket and apocalypse now, those are 2 of perhaps the best movies there are. So its unfair to compare just a regular movie to that. It was an excellent movie on a technical standard. gorgeous shots and actually great acting by Jake Gyllenhall. I mean, damn, he actually acted well. The actual movie itself fell short a little bit of what I wanted or expected, but it isn't supposed to be a high action movie at all. The point of the movie is to show the senselessness of war in a way but also more to just put you in the eyes of this one soldier and show you his life. Its a true story, and therefore is what it is.

RE: Re: RE: Jarhead
yeah to follow what blah said.. watchin the previews i expected to see a full-out, brains spilled kinda flick.. however that being said i was still impressed with the entire scenario how men from all different backrounds and upbringings can be taught and conditioned into kill-hungry soldiers. I duno maybe its just cause im taking sociology now that i dont need the gore of Saving Private Ryan anymore to enjoy a good war flick
