Default This Movie is FUCKING BEAUTIFUL

"This is the story of a guy, Joel (Jim Carrey),who discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine (Kate Winslet),has undergone a psychiatrist's (Tom Wilkinson)experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, which is likewise seen, and then erased. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong which alters other things about his memories as well..."

Now, I usually shy away from most romance movies, because, let's face it, most romace movies are the same thing in different themes. They're predictable, and thus they suck. But I had heard some good things about this movie, and I do enjoy movies where Jim Carrey has a more serious role (The Majestic and Man on the Moon), so I picked it up at Blockbuster the other day.

Holy shit, my friends. At one point suring the movie, I was watching it by myself (because mom doesn't like Jim and dad was tired), and I literally paused the movie, and said "Wow." I'm pretty sure I experienced every various emotion that a romace should make you feel, and then some. Seriously, go see it. It's original, unique, genius, deep, hilarious, saddening, joyous...It's fucking entertaining.

Oh, and the acting was good too. Or at least, I couldn't tell if it was bad, because I was too busy being very entertained.

It won the Oscar for Best Writing in 2004, and rottentomatoes.com gives it a 93%. I loved this movie so much, I just may have to buy it.

I too agree that this movie indeed is great. And if it counts as anything, my sister too agrees.

Good movie. A tad creepy at a couple of parts, which kind of soured the deal for me. Toss out the creepiness and I give it a solid review.

Creepy? What, like when the faces were becoming faceless?

Yeah, that whole sequence was really really unsettling. That and the kind of shadiness of the whole procedure.

Nice review I'll have to watch it. Have you ever seen Truman Show? Still to date one of the top 3 movies I have EVER seen.

I really liked it. I loved how the beginning and end tied into each other.

The effects of the mind erasure were creepy, though. :X

*Spoiler of scenes*

Dude, I LOVED that scene, because it made you switch emotions so quickly.

Joel: Doc, you gotta make this stop. Call it off!
Doctor: Joel, I thought you understood what was going on. I can't stop them, the real me is outside of your mind. I'm a figment of your imagination! I'm you!
[At this point, I was laughing out loud because for some reason it was funny to hear him explain that.]
Joel: But Clar--*Turns around and her face is gone*
[And just like THAT, you go from "lol" to "WHOAMG"]

Really. The whole memory erasure was awesome. Like when he revisits his memory of Elijah visiting her at the library, and he tried to turn the guy around and see his face. Or when they're outside the car theater and the car and the fences and everything start to disappear. And when he was having his very last memory of her, I amlost felt a tear or two welling up. "It'll be over soon. What do we do?" "Enjoy it."
Beautiful.
