Matt Clement Hit By Line Drive

Boston rallied twice after a frightening injury to pitcher Matt Clement, beating the Devil Rays, 10-9, in 10 innings Tuesday night. Clement was carted from the field and taken to a nearby hospital after Carl Crawford's liner caromed off the right side of Clement's head.

Clement only had 0.8 seconds to react.

I had that happen to me but I got hit right next to my left eye at 2nd base.

Dangit, are you going to be posting news articles for your entire FFR career? It's getting annoying! I don't care about hurricanes, space shuttles, or baseball players. The people who do care already knew without you telling us.

I gotta agree with Squeek.... even though its about sports.

At the same time, I was a pitcher for about 4 years... its a known risk that goes with the position. I'd say 1 ball every 2 games comes right back at you, some harder than others. Random factors lead to whether it hits them (and where), misses them, or they are able to get their glove on it.

Its a scary thing every time it happens. For me personally, I was never hit by a come-backer (as they are called). This is likely do to a few reasons... 1. I was never a fastball pitcher. I relied on accuracy and nasty movement to get strikeouts or force ground balls. As my balls never had high velocity (or rarely, as my fastball... when I threw it... wasn't all that fast) the ones that did come back at me were not all that fast. 2. I guess I basically said it above... I forced a TON of ground balls, some came back at me... but those are easy to field. 3. The quality of opponents was fairly low... the kids I pitched against COULDN'T hit a smoking line drive back at my head fast enough for me to be unable to react to it.

But, as far as Matt Clement... it sucks for him.

How about you act a bit more condescending Squeek. If you want to read about FFR, go to FFR General Talk. I actually cared about this article and it seems like it hit home with a lot of people. Just because you never stepped foot on any playing field in your entire life doesn't mean other people don't care about the article. Just click Back and move on to the next topic.

Unlike Squeek i enjoy reading things like this that people (mostly bmx) post. I think its interesting to hear about stuff that i would otherwise miss. Half the things posted on here i don't get to hear about in the UK or Asia (wherever i am at the time) so it is nice to be kept up to date). If you don't want to know about them, don't read them, simple.

You don't have to be a pitcher to be hit by a baseball. This past spring, and I believe some people on FFR know this, I was hit hit right next to my left eye. I didn't have enough time to react as well. When I was hit, the impact literally lifted me off my feet and layed motionless for 5 minutes. In other words, I was knocked unconcious. Right before the ambulance showed up, I woke up. The paramedics cleaned me up at the field and soon enough in the next half inning I was up, batting in my spot and back on the field, still playing. After the game, I went to the hospital and got 6 stitches. That was a scary moment for me and for everyone else. There was still 3-4 games left but there was no hesitation. I played those games as I told my coach, my dad, and the President of BATB I will play....And I did.

Actually, I don't want to read about FFR. About 90% of the regulars here stopped playing FFR long ago.

And I've played about 16 seasons of Baseball. Not only that, I was the team's MVP for many of them. I held the record for most homeruns in my district for a while. I love the sport, I hate watching it.

It's just that news is totally worthless. Hey, someone near me just got arrested for having 200 cats in their house, with over 160 of them dead! Did I post about it? Why do you think that is? Is it because she's not "famous"?

Oh no guys, Brad Pitt is getting married again! NEWS.

All I'm saying is that what happens to one individual that you otherwise couldn't care less about should not be newsworthy. Kinda like Schiavo. The only people who should have cared about that in the first place were her family and doctor. The Governor getting involved blew everything out of proportion and caused me an insane amount of grief when it was ALL I EVER HEARD ABOUT.
