Synthlight and I have briefly been discussing tournaments and leagues. I was wondering what the best day of the week would be to hold a tournament and also, how many people would actually be interested in a tournament.
Secondly, how many people would participate in a month-long league? We can take the top 10 scores of every song and award points to players every week and at the end of the month the top 10 players are announced. Just to experiment with the league, I'm thinking I'll try to handle everything with it and not charge anything - yes, a free one-month league. I'd have to figure out prizes for it yet, but, yeah, anyone interested? Post comments, questions and ideas here please; thank you. |

I'd rather go on a week night for like an hour or something. Post a new song for an hour, then take the top 10 after the end of that hour. Weekend are bad due to me either drinking or recovering from drinking. :P

More than likely, Remix #2 will be up before we launch any sort of leagues or tournaments. I'm lead to believe Synth and bprc will implement cheat safeguards into the new scoring system, and I've given Synth some tourney safeguard ideas, so we will make an attempt to cut out cheating entirely during the tournaments.
In league competition, players will have the entire week to play and obtain as many top 10 scores among the songs as they can, so time wouldn't be an issue in the leagues. For tournaments, Synthlight will probably be the ringleader for those. I've mentioned a few ideas to him, but we'll have to wait to see what he decides on when and how the tournament is run. Synth is aware that people play from all over the world, so I'm sure he'll plan an appropriate time for competitions. |

So are we going to allow duplicate high scores in the tourneys? Say so and so gets spot 1,2 and 4 on a song, will he get the points associated with each slot or only the highest?

We've talked about this in detail in a thread created about a month ago. As far as I know, Synth has shown an interest in making the high scores tables so that only a player's highest score can be shown on the top 50; no duplicates. There are also a few more safeguard beyond that to try to eliminate duplicate scoring, especially in tournaments. Synth and I had an entire AIM conversation over tournaments so we're trying to get this covered

By wiped out do you mean, a score topped by other players?
If so, I'm sure Synth would allow a person to climb back on to the top 50. |

I would assume that it would only track your highest score, not the first one posted.

I'm sure that the tournaments and leagues won't be planned until Remix #2 is completed. The new version will better suit tournaments and leagues. For tournaments, the songs done by competitors will be chosen by the tournament organizer and in the leagues all songs will be scored. If you only have four songs to choose from, you are probably playing the downloadable version. Competitions will take place online and should feature a lot more songs.

Unfortunately, I missed the vote. I like the current miss system. I see nothing wrong with leaving FFR more challenging. People seem to be doing well enough without using a weak DDR miss system.
The only potential problem that I see with the current miss system, which might be able to be tweaked, is that if you hit a wrong key you get double penalized (1 for hitting the wrong key + 1 for missing the right key). Maybe it would be worked out so that it is only counted as 1 miss to hit a wrong key at the same moment the step passes through the zone. I STRONGLY feel that you should get penalized for hitting wrong keys. Without that penalty, it wouldn't be FFR... it would be a giant "lets mash our keyboard to the beat" ghey-fest. |

>_< The sandbagging that would take place in a "light division" would be something I, personally, wouldn't want to deal with.
