Now, I just found out today that Macromedia released FP8 beta a few days ago on their site. This beta works very well so far from the things I have tested.
The biggest part of this beta is the fact that it can cache bitmaps. This allows a movieclip that stays the same to be cached in memory so it can be drawn to the screen easier then rendering each movieclip out everytime (FP7 on down). I went and changed R2 (The current one and Beta 2) for this FP8 demo. They both reside on my hard-drive still. The increase in FPS is amazing however, the only downside is that I took out the changing arrow graphics per beat in order to fully reap the benifits from the bitmap cache. Remember that the FP8 version will still work in FP7, but you wont get the added speed bonus. So, as soon as I can talk with Synthlight, the FP8 version will replace the one currently up and there might be a second link on the side for anyone who wants the extra arrow changing graphics. -----Soccr743----- EDIT For the link: http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...r/public_beta/ And read down around 5 posts to get the scoop on what happened. |

Sounds nice.
The increase of FPS will mostly depend on the machine spec I guess though. |

Hmm, the only increase seems to be from the FP8 player itself and not the bitmap caching. I turns out that when I tried changing the byte in the SWF that signifies the version number, it would not load the song wheel or show any groups of songs.
But, you still get a major FPS increase. I could barely play R2 in Firefox before this, but I now can play it easily at 45-64 fps. (Used to give me around 20 or so). In IE the framerate now perfectly stays at 64 at all times. -----Soccr743----- EDIT: Since that is the case, all you need is: http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...r/public_beta/ Enjoy! |

Yea, just imagine once it will actually be able to use bitmap caching. The speed is just coming from the faster plugin.

FlashPlayer 8 doesn't even work for me. I'm pretty sure it's interfering with Adblock for some reason though.

Same, since I have adblock.
I'll just wait until the final release or something, then reget it. |
